Introducing our next feature in the #HumansofRiverWoods series, Donna Hannon! Donna brings exceptional dedication to her role as Director of Nursing at RiverWoods Manchester, embodying a career rich in purpose and impact. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Donna's journey to RiverWoods is a testament to her commitment to senior healthcare. With a background in hospital nursing, Donna discovered her true calling in long-term care. "I felt I had more of a purposeful, meaningful job for senior health, which is something I am truly passionate about." Since joining us almost two years ago, Donna has left a strong mark through her proactive leadership and unwavering advocacy for residents and staff alike. Her approach is rooted in understanding—taking time to connect with residents and foster productive collaboration. "I love challenges. It's about making a real difference in the lives of our residents and supporting my team." Through prioritizing resident-centric care, she has not only improved operational efficiency but also enhanced the overall quality of life for residents and the working environment for staff. "It's rewarding to see how our efforts positively impact the residents' daily lives." Beyond her professional achievements, Donna is a devoted mother, proud grandmother and huge Bills fan. She finds solace and fulfillment in the cherished moments with her loved ones. "I live for my family and my four children. They inspire me every day to be the best I can be." Her deep-rooted values of family and community extend to her approach at RiverWoods. "The sense of community here reminds me of the bond I have with my own family. It's about caring for each other like we would our own loved ones." Donna has found her home away from home with RiverWoods. "I could have retired, but I love my job. I love the staff I work with. I love the leadership team. They were very cohesive." Her dedication to creating a supportive and enriching environment reflects RiverWoods' core values of compassion, respect, and excellence. #HumansofRiverWoods #RiverWoodsRetirementCommunities #SeniorHealthCare #RiverWoodsManchester

We are excited to share our next #HumansofRiverwoods feature, Tyler! His journey with RiverWoods began 7 years ago as a Healthcare Cook at our Exeter campus. With the opening of RiverWoods Durham he was asked to transition into the role of Sous Chef there. Today, he proudly serves as the Executive Chef in Durham. Reflecting on his career growth, Tyler shared, “I haven’t looked back since I started!” When asked what initially drew him to RiverWoods, Tyler revealed a project that inspired his application. "I was working on a project that had to do with pureed foods and re-sculpting them back into what they looked like before." The aim was to help people with swallowing difficulties enjoy their pureed meals. Though his previous employer admired the concept, they lacked the resources to implement it. It was then that Tyler learned RiverWoods Exeter was working on a similar initiative. Excited by the alignment, he applied. “I told them about my experience, and they were immediately excited and brought me right in.” Tyler recalled. But Tyler’s connection to RiverWoods didn’t stop with his career. His bond with the community deepened when his grandparents and father joined him in Durham. His grandparents chose RiverWoods Durham as their home because of its convenient location. “Putting a RiverWoods in Durham was perfect for them—it was an easy move. I’m sure the fact that I worked here helped sway their decision a little bit,” Tyler added with a smile. A few years later, his father, Mark, also became part of the RiverWoods family, joining the team as a Resident IT Technician. When asked how it feels to work alongside his family, Tyler beamed, saying, “Our family is really close. It’s nice to see them around. Sometimes, I forget we’re all here, then I turn a corner, and there they are!” Tyler’s story is one of passion, family, and alignment of personal and professional values. When asked why he stays at RiverWoods Tyler says "The community and especially the relationships you build with residents. It's the little things that you wouldn't think would have big a impact on you, but do. The running jokes, the hand wave(s), they add up!" Although we didn't get a picture of the entire Sylvester clan, Mark and Tyler are pictured below. #RiverWoods #DurhamNH #cheflife #seniorliving #careerdevelopment

Our next #HumansofRiverWoods feature is John Isabel, Maintenace Supervisor at Exeter. This August, we are celebrating John's 30th work anniversary! He was first introduced to RiverWoods when the construction company he used to work for built The Woods campus. He loved the concept of community RiverWoods performed and became in charge of the maintenance department. "As soon as I found out this place was independent and everyone's in the same area, I knew this is what I wanted to do and be a part of. The next thing I knew Justine and I were walking, and I was carrying her desk." Throughout his 30 years, he has been part of the maintenance and construction project management departments. "I started as maintenance supervisor for a few years, and before we had the original holders, they needed someone who knew how to do construction project management. That was me, and I did that for several years. Then, I ended up back in maintenance and have been the lead mechanic here for years and years." John's favorite parts about RiverWoods are the residents and his team. "I have always been close with my grandparents, who have helped me develop my skill set. Helping the residents have the rest of their lives safe and secure is what I enjoy. I also love when a team can come together in emergencies and figure things out. I always know when there is a problem, my team and I will sit down, figure it out, and get it done. That's the kind of guy I am and the type of culture RiverWoods is." Outside of RiverWoods, he has been a firefighter EMT in Brentwood, New Hampshire for over 24 years. "At Brentwood, I am now the captain and second command of the fire department and teaching the next generation firefighting." He also enjoys golfing, hiking, and spending time at his campground home on Ossipee Lake with his 5 grandkids and wife who he met at RiverWoods. Please join us in celebrating John's 30 years at RiverWoods full of commitment and excellence! #HumansofRiverWoods #RiverWoodsRetirementCommunities #30YearsatRiverWoods #RiverWoodsExeter

The LCSNH organization visited 4 properties, 3 in Durham and 1 in Exeter. "In 1990, they signed an agreement on 83 acres of the land funded by the seed money from RLS. Then, the organization hired Englebrecht & Griffin Architects of Newburyport, Massachusetts, to design the beautiful property of RiverWoods Exeter." ????? #RiverWoods30Years #RiverWoodsExeter #LandConservation #EnglebrechtGriffin
