Yesterday I joined colleagues from the Play Fair for Parks Coalition and Riverside Park Conservancy to demand a restoration of 795 union jobs in the Parks Dept budget. Parks make our city livable. They are universally loved spaces where we find nature, community, health and space to breathe. What they don't do is take care of themselves. It’s the first day of spring, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than advocating for our parks and open spaces with New Yorkers for Parks + the entire #PlayFair coalition. As the weather continues to get warmer and more people use our parks, staff need adequate funding. Currently, the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation budget sits at less than 1%, which it has been at for decades (!!) — this is completely unacceptable. Looking back at the season and had to share some of my favorite plant combos since joining the Riverside Park Conservancy team! It’s so exciting to enter a new space and just take it in, see what’s working and thriving before adding our own flair. The gardeners here are so extremely thoughtful in their spaces and it’s amazing to see their shared vision across 400 acres! Solidago rugosa ‘Fireworks’ with Chasmanthium latifolium Adiantum pedatum with Onoclea sensibilis Diervilla lonicera with Aruncus dioicus (this combo in particular is stunning all season)

A big thank you to Bloomberg for being a fantastic partner this summer and fall! Bloomberg volunteers dedicated 300+ hours across multiple volunteer days to support projects like planting native plants, removing organic debris for processing at our Compost Compound, and cleaning up garbage in key park areas.
