Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC)

The Western Riverside County Regional Conservation Authority celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan (MSHCP). Twenty years ago, the MSHCP was developed to help balance the growing need for transportation and housing infrastructure while protecting habitats for 146 native animal and plant species. The balanced approach has helped western Riverside County conserve thousands of acres of land while streamlining the environmental review process for much-needed transportation projects, saving time and money. In 2021, RCTC became the managing agency of the RCA and has invested Measure A funding towards acquiring habitat for the MSHCP in support of regional transportation projects. RCTC and Riverside Transit Agency continued sharing the transportation needs of Riverside County residents on Day 2 of Congressional meetings in Washington, D.C. RCTC Chair Lloyd White and First Vice Chair Karen Spiegel, along with RTA Chair Jeremy Smith and Board member Linda Molina had productive conversations with Congressman Ken Calvert and Congressman Mark Takano about the value of investing in Riverside County’s transportation system. Leaders of our agencies delved into expanding opportunities for passenger rail in Riverside County, progress on road construction projects, safety, and the transition to a hydrogen transit fleet. Congratulations to Riverside County Transportation Department, City of Norco - Horsetown USA?, and City of Eastvale, CA on the completion of the Hamner Avenue Bridge and Widening Project with the naming dedication of the Mayor Berwin Hanna Bridge! ?

It’s been eight years since the Metrolink 91/Perris Valley Line opened, bringing with it expanded travel options along I-215 and passenger rail service to City of Riverside, City of Moreno Valley, City of Perris, and the surrounding communities. The 24-mile extension from the Riverside-Downtown station was the first Metrolink extension to open since the Antelope Valley line in 1994. Fast forward to today and RCTC continues to enhance service along this corridor with the Moreno Valley-March Field Station Improvements Project which is slated to open later this year. #TransitTuesday

Thanks to our hardworking crews and project partners, the new southbound 71 lanes have been successfully paved and traffic has been shifted onto those new lanes. All southbound 71 lanes and the southbound 71 to eastbound and westbound 91 connectors have reopened. Riverside County transit operators will receive over $7.5 million in Low Carbon Transit Operations Program (LCTOP) state funds for student programs, reduced fares, and bus and rail service enhancements.
