As a founding member of Rivers are Life, Dow is dedicated to protecting and restoring river ecosystems worldwide, recognizing that 90% of the world’s population lives within walking distance of a river system, according to the National Institutes of Health. Environmental challenges like climate change and pollution hit river communities the hardest, leading to increased pollution, droughts, and waterborne diseases. In response, passionate innovators are driving change, inspiring Dow to co-create Rivers are Life, a platform to conserve and restore vital river environments. Together, Dow and Rivers are Life aim to support impact projects, both large and small, to make a significant difference on river ecosystems while emphasizing our shared responsibility to preserve these essential resources. With ongoing support and a shared vision, we seek to enhance our impact and create a future where healthy river ecosystems are the norm. This partnership embodies the cooperation and dedication needed for meaningful change in safeguarding our planet's water resources. Rivers Are Life is grateful for its partnership with Dow and looks forward to the positive impact in river conservation and beyond. We are excited to showcase our educational partnership with Louisiana State University (LSU), which is dedicated to empowering the next generation of river conservationists. At the heart of this partnership is the Center for River Studies, home to one of the largest movable bed physical models in the world. This impressive 10,000-square-foot model of the Mississippi River Delta allows scientists, engineers, and students to study flow, water levels, and sediment transport within this vital system. Visitors can explore an interactive exhibit covering the Mississippi River's history, Louisiana's disappearing wetlands, and essential coastal restoration efforts. As Clinton Willson, Dean of the LSU College of the Coast & Environment and Director of the Center for River Studies, states, “One thing that we all need to be aware of is the consequences of small actions and how you can have cumulative impacts.” Through our partnership with LSU, we're not just witnessing change—we're driving it forward.
