CALIFORNIA CONSERVATION ACTIONS?- UPDATE CA Assembly Bill AB1889 (Room to Roam Act) passed CA Senate Appropriations Committee on Aug 15, 2024. General Plan?Conservation Element?Changes to include Wildlife and Habitat Connectivity Analysis: The bill would require the Conservation Element, upon the next update of one or more General Plan?elements on or after?January 1, 2028,?to identify and analyze connectivity areas, permeability, and natural landscape areas within the jurisdiction, identify and analyze existing or planned wildlife passage features, and consider the impacts of development and the barriers caused by development to wildlife?and habitat connectivity. In a separate component or section of the general plan entitled a wildlife connectivity element, the?city, county, or city and county preparing to update its conservation element will consider incorporating appropriate standards, policies, and?feasible?implementation programs, consult with specified entities, and consider relevant best available science and the most appropriately scaled scientific information on linkages, corridors, and other locations that are essential to maintain landscape connectivity.?? #AB1889 #ROOMTOROAM #WILDLANDSNETWORK https://lnkd.in/gvCRXXxD

Great News! The CA Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee has unanimously passed CA Senate Joint Resolutions 16 & 17 to designate the proposed Chuckwalla (660,000 acres), Joshua Tree Expansion (17,000), Kw’tsán (390,000 acres), and Sáttítla (205,000 acres) National Monuments. Next action is to request President Biden to use the Antiquities Act to designate these lands as national monuments. This federal action would fulfill the goals of Federal Executive Order No. 14008: Advance Environmental Justice and Conservation, and the California Executive Order N-28-20: 30x30 Climate Resilience and Biodiversity Conservation lead by CA Natural Resources Agency. Tiny, urban forests flush with native plants, trees and shrubs are curbing storm surge and flooding, providing habitat for important insects and wildlife, absorbing carbon and helping clean the air.
