The Construction Leadership Institute (CLI) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville proudly celebrated the graduation of 48 participants. Among them were Derek Fuller, Chadburn Barton, and Zach Elbe (not pictured). CLI offers a convenient, accelerated nine-week program designed to rapidly develop leadership, communication, and professional skills that typically require years of experience to acquire. This unique program brings together individuals from various sectors of the A/E/C industry, fostering an environment of discovery and collaboration through discussions, exercises, and simulations that leverage the participants' diverse experiences. The new 33,000-square-foot, three-story Welcome Center at Missouri University of Science and Technology features an exhibit gallery, event spaces, a presentation room, meeting rooms, and offices for undergraduate admissions, enrollment management, and graduate and international admissions. The lobby's exhibition spaces will highlight Missouri S&T’s past, present, and future. The primary goal of the Welcome Center is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for prospective students and their families visiting the campus. Women have been integral to the construction industry since ancient times. The first recorded instance of women in construction dates back to 13th-century Spain. From then until the 17th century, women worked as laborers and material suppliers. In the 1800s, many women gained recognition as architects and engineers. During World War II, women took on significant roles, effectively running the industry. In 2015, there were around 929,000 women in the industry. Despite the industry's male dominance, that number grew to 1.34 million by 2024, with women actively involved in turning construction plans into reality.
