  • NEW this year: River Alliance supporters can enjoy our 16th annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival on demand! Anyone who has donated in the last year - including everyone who gives during The Big Share now through March 4 - can watch the festival on demand March 20-26. This is a great option for our supporters who live outside of Madison and cannot join us at the Barrymore Theatre for our event on March 20 or those who prefer to watch films with closed captions. Wild & Scenic video on demand is made possible by Wisconsin Public Radio. Check out our film lineup: https://lnkd.in/eaDCEfSR

  • This year’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival will be more accessible than ever. If we have your email address and you’ve donated to River Alliance in the last year – including during The Big Share through March 4 – you’ll get a link to watch the film festival at home between March 20-26. It's a great option for our statewide supporters, those who cannot join us in person at our event at the Barrymore Theatre on March 20, or those who want films with closed captions. • Support River Alliance of Wisconsin in one BIG day of community generosity. We are asking all of our supporters to donate five dollars or more at 7 p.m. on March 4. Your gift will be doubled while matching funds last! The Big Share on March 4 is a one-stop-shop where you can donate to over 70 nonprofits and the social and environmental justice causes you care about – including groups whose federal funding is at risk of deep and discriminatory cuts. Save the date to give big: https://lnkd.in/e8jV7xn3

  • For nearly 30 years, Russ Miller has navigated challenging conditions to lead trash cleanups in the Red River Gorge in the protected Clifty Wilderness area of Kentucky. We will share his story about what drives him and his fellow Friends of the Red River to pull trash out of this wild and scenic river at this year's Wild & Scenic Film Festival. To learn about how you can experience the festival in March, subscribe to our Word on the Stream email newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gEdZ_H54

  • Remember when Rachel Carson's book "Silent Spring" alerted us to the dangers of using DDT? Researching the chemical's impacts on our ecosystem led to better policy. We may be in the research and understanding phase of neonicotinoid pesticide use in the U.S. That's what River Alliance of Wisconsin's Ellen (Hamann) Voss, Clean Wisconsin's Sara Walling, and UW-Division of Extension's AJ Jeninga will present during Wisconsin Water Week at the 2025 Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers Conference in Stevens Point. Stay tuned for more on this emerging issue.

  • We are thrilled to welcome Meg Galloway, Charles Rathmann, and Tom Wiensch to our board! Each brings valuable knowledge and dedication to protecting Wisconsin’s waters. Meg Galloway, a water engineer and Senior Policy Advisor for the Association of Floodplain Managers, spent 30 years regulating water and dams at the Wisconsin DNR. ? Charles Rathmann began his involvement with River Alliance on our Fund Development Committee, where he contributed ideas and secured new donors. An angler, he enjoys the view of the Lower Wisconsin River from his home in Muscoda. ? Tom Wiensch, a lifelong environmentalist, angler, paddler, and advocate from Oneida County, recently worked to secure the Pelican River Forest Easement.
