Phyl Demetriou, founder of RITS, is leading the effort to inspire the next generation of engineers in Richmond. With a focus on collaboration, RITS is working to build a metro-wide robotics league to engage students in STEM.

Meet Phyl Demetriou, the visionary founder of the Richmond Institute of Technology and Science (RITS)! Phyl is a graduate of William & Mary with extensive experience in market research and management consulting. For nearly a decade, Phyl has led educational programs in Richmond, focusing on speech and debate through summer camps, overnight camps, online initiatives, and after-school programs. Now, Phyl is channeling this expertise into launching the Richmond Institute of Technology and Science (RITS), with the mission of bridging the gap between K-12 STEM education and the needs of today’s industries.

Our community is growing! We recently onboarded Henderson Middle School and MLK Middle School to VEX Robotics. Two Richmond Public Schools will join our region’s growing robotics league to participate in competitions this January!

RITS was thrilled to attend the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies STEM Day this past weekend! 6th-8th grade students were able to build their own miniature robots to take home, and learn more about robotics with RITS!
