Today, we're excited to spotlight the Accelerated Bridge Construction University Transportation Center (ABC-UTC)’s Ultra-High Performance Concrete (#UHPC), featured as February's Innovation of the Month in the Federal Highway Administration's #EDCNews! ?? ??? #UHPC is an efficient, concrete-like material used to reinforce infrastructure #durability. It's stronger than traditional #concrete, has a smaller #carbon footprint, and is designed to work well even #underwater. New research on #UHPC, led by Florida International University - College of Engineering & Computing Professor Atorod Azizinamini, Ph.D. P.E., recently resulted in the first U.S. application of ‘sprayable,' UHPC on a bridge in Fairfax, VA, in coordination with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Thanks to support from the U.S. Department of Transportation, members of Congress, and our partners US Army Corps of Engineers, Titan America, and the Risk + Resilience Tech Hub, Florida International University has proven #UHPC to be a stronger, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for #infrastructure #development. This week, I attended the LIVE@Frost Science: Making Miami Climate Ready event at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science with Natalie Lewis and Julia Craig! The event featured Galen Treuer on the Risk + Resilience Tech Hub, Irene F. discussing Florida International University’s role in making Miami’s infrastructure resilient, and Andrew Baker from the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science on breeding heat-resistant corals to protect Florida’s coasts. It was an energizing experience, highlighting the innovative work being done to address climate change and create a more sustainable future. As an engineering student, I believe cross-disciplinary collaboration is key to tackling climate challenges. #ClimateChange #ClimateTech #Resilience #Innovation #Sustainability
