The devastating impact of Hurricane Helene has highlighted the importance of producers having a safety net against catastrophic weather. Learn more about resources that USDA provides to help farm operations recover from disasters (https://lnkd.in/eDr37GgV). Once a farm operation has moved into recovery from these storms, it's also important to consider how to protect your operation from future hurricanes or tropical storms. That's where Federal crop insurance may be a good fit. You can learn more about the Hurricane Insurance Protection - Wind Index and Tropical Storm option on the RMA website: https://lnkd.in/g_rNMrGs
Why would a farmer want to add the Tropical Storm Option to their policy if they already have Hurricane Insurance Protection – Wind Index (HIP-WI)?? ? RMA subject matter expert, Zach White, says that tropical storms are more frequent and cover a larger area than hurricanes. Sometimes it's not just the wind damage that can be an issue. Rainfall and flooding from tropical storms can lead to severe damage. If a producer only has HIP-WI, then they would miss out on the added protection available by using the Tropical Storm Option.?? ? It is a great Option for someone that wants some level of coverage to protect against hurricanes and tropical storms. We know that sometimes all that coverage can be expensive, so we designed the products to include a factor called the "coverage percentage", which allows you to customize the coverage that you receive and lower your premium.?? ? This coverage percentage works by reducing the amount of liability you have and therefore reducing indemnities and premium.? ?
