We are thrilled to be participating in Open House New York Weekend from October 18-20 and grateful that the Ravenswood Generating Station is featured as one of the venues as a part of this year's lineup! For more than 20 years, this annual five-borough festival has invited and enabled hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors to access, explore and experience locations they may not otherwise be able to -- with behind-the-scenes tours led by architects, engineers, designers, historians, community advocates and other experts. Ravenswood Generating Station was first built by Consolidated Edison in 1963 and today remains NYC's largest power plant. We look forward to hosting OHNY Weekend participants to give them not only a look at what's inside a facility that has kept New York running for decades, but also the vision and necessary steps for transforming it into a renewable energy hub that benefits our community and helps the city and state achieve their critical clean energy goals. As Kristin LaBuz, executive director of Open House New York aptly puts it, “The act of opening doors to share the experience of the city is a radically simple yet deeply democratic act—one rooted in learning, connecting, and joy. Nothing reflects the dynamism and diversity of New York quite like OHNY Weekend. And nothing rivals the experience of exploring and discovering the city alongside thousands of New Yorkers and visitors worldwide.” Save the date! We hope to see you there. https://lnkd.in/gMSjwktw

It was incredible touring the Ravenswood Generating Station in Queens recently to learn about the peaker power plant’s history and its ongoing efforts to covert to green energy, mainly via connecting to offshore wind projects far out to sea from NYC. Such a transition is not only great for our environment but also for the neighboring community’s health as well as for the City’s sustainability. Thank you to Rise Light & Power and to Wil Fisher for an insightful presentation and a very cool facility tour. Their climate and energy leadership is impressive and serves as a real-world example for cities, states, and nations working to power our future and to modernize our infrastructure in equitable, resilient, green, and responsible ways. #wind #green #energy #NYC #powerplants #climate ??????????

Thank you to our neighbors in Queens and across the city who came to the Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement yesterday and offered your unanimous support for the key transmission line - Queensboro Renewable Express - that will deliver clean, offshore wind energy to the Ravenswood site. This project is vital to our plan to transform the site into a clean energy hub, providing a just transition for our union workforce and an environmental justice win for Western Queens. Before NYS officials, Queens residents, community, business and environmental justice leaders shared why this project is critical for our future. We are honored to have your support. To learn more about the project, the Article VII process and opportunities to provide public comment on the Queensboro Renewable Express, please visit: https://lnkd.in/e8KtN6Kh.
