RIPTA is excited to welcome Jacqueline as the new Administrative Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer. Jacqueline—known as Jackie—joins us with 15 years of experience at MetLife, where she worked as a trainer, coach, and quasi-supervisor, specializing in pensions, structured settlements, and master terminal funding products. Looking for a career change, Jackie was drawn to RIPTA by the opportunity to work a more regular schedule, a shift from her previous role, which often involved nights and weekends. In her new role, her primary responsibility is managing the CEO's schedule, but Jackie feels that her strong ability to prioritize tasks will allow her to excel in other aspects of the job as well. After working virtually since 2019, Jackie is thrilled to be back in an office setting, where she enjoys interacting with colleagues and building relationships. A proud native and resident of Cranston, Jackie is a graduate of Cranston East High School. She has three adult sons and two beloved cats, Frankie and Cali. Outside of work, Jackie enjoys spending time at the beach, reading, and going for walks. We are thrilled to have Jackie on board and look forward to her contributions to the RIPTA team! Meet Pauline, one of the newest members of the RIPTA team! Pauline has stepped into the role of Customer Service Representative, where she’ll be answering calls and assisting customers from all over Rhode Island. You might even see her lending a hand at senior centers and transit hubs where she will fill in as needed, bringing her helpful spirit wherever she goes. For Pauline, working at RIPTA combines her love of helping people with her appreciation for the lively pace of phone interactions. She’s already enjoying the welcoming atmosphere and friendly coworkers she’s met since joining the team. Before RIPTA, Pauline worked as a Flagger for the 271 Laborers Union but was ready for a new challenge—and an indoor role. Her background is rich with customer service experience, particularly in the food industry, where she spent eight years at Dunkin Donuts. This experience has prepared her well for the customer-focused nature of her new role. A proud North Providence native and graduate of North Providence High School, Pauline still lives in the area with her daughter. You can’t help but be impressed by Eliones's strong work ethic and dedication. As one of the newest additions to RIPTA, Eliones joins us as a Utility Worker, contributing to the upkeep of our facilities and ensuring our buses are maintained in top shape. After nearly two decades at CINTAS, where he worked as a Wash Alley Operator, Eliones was ready for a fresh start and new opportunities. “I wanted a job where I could grow,” he shares, “and RIPTA seems like the right place for that.” His role at CINTAS involved operating machinery and maintaining the quality of uniforms and carpets, experience he believes will serve him well in his new position at RIPTA. Eliones was inspired to apply for the role by his brother, who started as a Utility Worker and has since advanced to a driver position. Knowing the potential for growth, Eliones is excited to make his mark and contribute to an organization that values community service. “It’s rewarding to be able to give back in this way,” he says, reflecting on his new role. Originally from Haiti, Eliones has called Rhode Island home for 19 years. After living in Providence, he now resides in Pawtucket with his four children. In his free time, he loves watching movies, reading, and listening to music. We’re thrilled to have Eliones on board and look forward to seeing the positive impact he’ll bring to our team and the RIPTA community! Want to join our team? Visit RIPTA.com/careers

We’re excited to welcome James to the RIPTA team as a Utility Worker, where he’ll be playing an essential role in keeping our facilities and buses in top-notch condition. James joined RIPTA with a clear goal: to work for an established company that offers strong benefits and room for growth—and he’s found just that here. James comes to RIPTA with 14 years of experience from Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Boston where he worked in housekeeping. Over the years, he moved up to a supervisory role where he built up the valuable leadership experience he’s eager to bring to his new position. Originally from Jamaica, James has lived in the United States for 18 years, spending the first four in Boston before moving to Providence where he’s lived for the past 14 years. He and his wife have three sons, and he loves spending time with his family. In his free time, James is always up for a good game of dominoes or cricket, and he loves to travel whenever he gets the chance. We’re thrilled to have James on board and look forward to seeing the great contributions he’ll make at RIPTA! Want to join our talented team? Visit RIPTA.com/careers

It’s not a lack of insurance knowledge that keeps James O’Brien from taking out a policy on the long, well-groomed beard he’s been growing for four years. This detail-oriented individual is an expert in the intricacies of insurance, experience that serves him well as RIPTA’s Director of Claims Management. For a large operation like RIPTA, it makes sense to handle certain tasks in-house to save on costs. For example, RIPTA’s fleet of over 400 buses and passenger vans is self-insured. “Most people have an insurance company that handles their claims for them,” says James. “The fact that we have our own insurance department—most people may not realize that.” In addition to in-house vehicle coverage, RIPTA contracts with outside companies for policies like garage keeper’s insurance, property insurance, and general liability coverage. “There are a lot of policies that we need to keep the company running,” says James. In fact, RIPTA maintains 13 separate insurance policies to cover a wide range of risks, such as pollution insurance, which covers the agency in the event of diesel fuel or motor oil spills. James has accumulated his vast knowledge of the insurance industry having worked exclusively for insurance companies, including Aetna and Pilgrim Insurance Company, since graduating from college. This November marks his five-year anniversary at RIPTA. What makes him good at his job? “Details,” says James. “Making sure that you consider every aspect of an accident and keeping an open mind—there are two sides to every story.” Collaborating with the many people who work behind the scenes at RIPTA is what James enjoys most about his job. “Not everyone likes to hear a call from me,” he laughs. “But everyone’s always friendly and willing to help out.” Want to join our team? You’re likely to hear Tim, Principal Planner on RIPTA’s Service Planning team, before you see him. Tim’s cheery whistles float down the hallway from the copy room, where he is printing out what’s known in transit agencies as a paddle – a detailed list of each trip our buses are scheduled to make, which drivers use to choose which days and locations they want to work. Before coming to RIPTA, Tim worked as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office (USPS). Working for USPS gave this curious Providence College graduate an interest in public policy and a fascination with logistical networks and public transit. Tim loves his new role at RIPTA, where he is primarily responsible for improving bus schedules which change three times per year. He also addresses passenger and stakeholder concerns and helps to manage RIPTA’s bus stops. Tim and the rest of the Service Planning team are experts in wrangling RIPTA’s 68 bus routes. He works to make the ride as smooth as possible for everyone, balancing the needs of thousands of daily passengers with that of RIPTA’s nearly 400 bus drivers. For example, while retiming the schedule for two routes to make it easier for passengers to transfer from one bus to another, Tim is also making sure there’s enough time for the drivers of each route to have adequate breaks. A sharp and purpose-driven individual, Tim is dedicated to serving the public. His ability to find joy in the everyday aspects of his role makes all the difference. His favorite part of the job? “Seeing the bus go by when I’m not working and thinking, ‘I do that,’” says Tim. “It’s about to turn left.” When he’s not at work, this Seekonk resident spends time with his wife and two children. He loves when a RIPTA bus drives by, pointing it out to his kids and saying, “Wave to my coworker!” Next time you hear someone whistling a tune through Kennedy Plaza or at Roger Williams Park, where he enjoys spending his lunch break, say hello – that’s probably Tim!
