Key takeaways from Dr. Dunn’s interview: Updated Screening Guidelines: Women are now encouraged to begin breast cancer screening at age 40, with earlier screenings recommended for those with a family history or genetic predisposition. With 1 in 8 women in the U.S. diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, early detection is crucial in improving outcomes. While mamograms are a common screening tool, thermography offers a non-invasive, radiation-free option that can complement your breast health routine. Thermography measures heat patterns in breast tissue, which can indicate changes in blood flow or inflammation—potential early signs of concern. It’s especially helpful for women with dense breast tissue, where mammograms may be less effective. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women and when detected early, the 5-year survival rate for breast cancer is as high as 99%. Thermography provides an additional layer of monitoring to detect changes before a lump can be felt or seen on a mammogram. Thermography isn’t a replacement for traditional screenings but offers a safer, radiation-free option for frequent monitoring.
