Podcasting has been given the "Netflix effect" and creators are opting for subscription-based revenue models over ads. But here's the thing: Ads work. They work for publishers, advertisers, and listeners—and all for different reasons. In a recent webinar, we sat down with podcast advertising experts who shared their expertise on achieving and sustaining growth through podcast ads, but we drilled further down to learn: How exactly are smart marketers and publishers maximizing their podcasting advertising ROI? Our own Krystina Rubino and Tyler Elliston recently spoke at #SXSW about the rise of podcast in the advertising space. 3 key takeaways: 1)??? Podcasts shape culture: When Saturday Night Live features Charli XCX spoofing a podcast ad, you know podcasts have become part of mainstream culture. Podcasting isn’t just a multi-billion dollar industry; it’s a powerful cultural force that allows brands to build truly authentic relationships with listeners. 2) ????? Trust hosts to represent your brand: Podcast hosts know their audience—and they know how to tell a compelling story. It’s understandable to feel protective about your brand, especially if it’s visually oriented. But don’t overlook the ability of podcasters to paint a picture with words, and vividly convey your brand’s personality and message through audio alone. 3)?? Look beyond direct attribution: Podcast listeners rarely click or convert immediately after hearing an ad. They’re usually multitasking: driving, cooking, working out. That means traditional attribution models, especially last-click, often undervalue the channel’s effectiveness. Instead, measure success through multiple methods, like pixel-based tracking, surveys, or broader KPI trends, to see the true impact of your ads.

Ian discusses balancing growth with financial discipline, how he helped Tonal build a game-changing growth strategy, and why creating a predictable revenue engine is key to long-term success. ??? Key Takeaways: Why Smart Founders Play the Long Game Chasing short-term wins doesn't lead to sustainable growth.
