Teeth play a big role for the human body. Allowing for digesting food and expressing a great smile. However, your teeth also need to be taken care of, or harmful bacteria can build up which can lead to gingivitis, bad breath and health complications. Today is #NationalDentistsDay, and here at the Free Clinic, we are thankful to have such dedicated dentists to restore our patients’ oral health and bring smiles to the community, one at a time. ?? ?------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Los dientes tienen una gran importancia en el cuerpo humano. Permiten digerir los alimentos y expresar una gran sonrisa. Happy Social Work Month! It's amazing to see such dedication in action. The work that our Manager of Behavioral Health Services Crissanny Nazario, MSW, LCSW, and her team of interns from Rhode Island College School of Social Work—Martin Paiz, Helaryn Hernandez, Alba Toribio, Gisselle Torres, and Naiomy Melendez, are doing is so impactful. Providing psychotherapy, resource navigation, and patient onboarding is a tremendous service to the community. Their commitment and hard work truly make a difference. The establishment of George A. Brewster Hospital in 1901 in Jacksonville, Florida, is a great example of paving the way to eliminate health disparities in Black communities. This was a significant milestone as it was the first hospital to treat Black people in the community and the first Black nursing school. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 further advanced the elimination of health disparities in the community, but it led the hospital to close its doors in 1966 due to a lack of funds. The building still stands today as a reminder of its legacy to eliminate health disparities in Black communities.? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- La creación del Hospital George A. Brewster en 1901 en Jacksonville, Florida, es un gran ejemplo de cómo se allanó el camino para eliminar las disparidades en materia de salud en las comunidades negras. Renovations for the Rhode Island Free Clinic are underway! This much needed, deserved upgrade was made possible Through the generosity of the Champlin Foundation and the efforts of C&C Remodel. The RI Free Clinic has a fresh coat of paint on the second and third floors and new luxury vinyl flooring in the hallways. The shades of blue brighten up the entire clinic. #RIFreeClinicReno This is a very exciting change, and we can't wait for the results of the renovation.
