Rick’s new book — “On the Hippie Trail: Istanbul to Kathmandu and the Making of a Travel Writer” — is now available for preorder! In 1978, Rick traveled from Istanbul to Kathmandu with his best friend on the ultimate trip for any backpacker — the so-called Hippie Trail. During the trip, Rick journaled like a travel writer in training, penning 60,000 words. Coming out in February 2025, the book is an edited transcription of Rick’s journal with vivid travel photos from the journey and a preface and postscript reflecting on how this trip changed his life. Anyone who preorders a copy can get a free, custom-designed postcard featuring vintage photos and a message from the Hippie Trail. The postcard also includes access to a video recording of Rick reading an excerpt from the book. And, signed copies are available to preorder from Barnes and Noble and Books-a-Million. Ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Stow away with Rick and enjoy the read! Preorder here: https://rb.gy/05cb4d

Each year, our Climate Smart Commitment funds a diverse portfolio of non-profits doing important work to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The 2025 grant application process is now open, and we welcome submissions from US-based, tax-exempt organizations that focus on one of the following: *Empowering people in the developing world to adapt, live, and work in ways that contribute less to climate change and strengthen their communities *Lobbying the US government for climate-smart policies ? To submit your non-profit for consideration, write 250 words or less on how you plan to smartly invest our funds in accordance with the values and goals of our program. The submission deadline is July 31, 2024. ? Check out our Climate Smart Commitment page to learn more about our program, how our partner organizations plan to use their grants this year, and for details on the full application process. We believe that all of us can gain a broader perspective through travel while preserving our planet for generations of travelers to come. ? https://lnkd.in/dwV3FVtS #climateaction #nonprofit #grants #grantfunding

We were happy to have you as a beneficiary of our 2023 Season’s Givings campaign. We look forward to following along with the great work you’re doing in helping students learn through travel.
Now that summer #travel is in full swing with a holiday weekend upon us here in the U.S., we couldn't think of a better time to thank Rick Steves' Europe for a generous donation of $45,000! For a small organization like ours, it means so much—especially when it comes from a like-minded organization that values the transformative power of travel. Thank you also to the hundreds and hundreds of people who voted to share the experience of travel with underserved high school students during the RSE Season’s Givings campaign! We wish you safe travels, momentous moments, and lifelong memories. We'd love to hear your favorite travel stories! Please tell us where you went on your first international trip, your most memorable one, or an indelible travel moment.

To celebrate Earth Day, we’re excited to announce our 2024 portfolio of Climate Smart Commitment grant recipients. By supporting these 13 nonprofit organizations with funds from our self-imposed carbon tax, our goal is to mitigate our environmental impact by creatively investing in groups fighting climate change through on-the-ground work in the developing world and government advocacy in the US. One of our new grantees is Health In Harmony (HIH), whose mission is to reverse tropical rainforest deforestation. By working directly with the Indigenous peoples and local communities who live in and beside rainforests, HIH works to protect 9.4 million hectares of rainforest across Indonesia, Madagascar, and Brazil. Our support will help them reduce community reliance on unsustainable practices while teaching climate-smart farming techniques in southeastern Madagascar. Congo Education Partners (CEP) is another newcomer to our portfolio for 2024. They support higher education in the Tshuapa Province of the Congo Basin Rainforest. Our donation will help CEP create a new generation of rainforest stewards by teaching them the skills to protect the forest, its wildlife, and the livelihoods of the local communities. A returning grantee is the Women's Global Education Project (WGEP), a nonprofit empowering women and girls in rural regions of sub-Saharan Africa to build better lives and foster more equitable communities. Our donation this year will equip WGEP to train 420 women on how to build climate-smart cookstoves (pictured here) and prepare 450 students to lead plastic reduction clean-ups and reforestation efforts along the Sine-Saloum Delta.
