You need these faults & maps if you work the Permian Basin??! Part 2 ?? The Delaware Basin is experiencing seismicity like the Midland Basin, and of course, lots of shallow and deep faults ? richroc consultants combined the Midland and Delaware Basin faults and maps from the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG) into Google Earth file ??: https://lnkd.in/g9piMapk If you like to hunt ?? for the raw data: Delaware Basin ?? You need this fault map if you work the Permian Basin. The Midland Basin is experiencing seismicity in the oilfield and, not surprisingly, has a network of basement-rooted faults, comprehensive of normal, strike-slip, and even reverse faults mapped by the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG). A comprehensive map and shapefile including 795 faults, crucial for investigating fault slip hazards and planning petroleum operations are available. Well log digitizing is grueling. It takes FOREVER to digitize a crummily scanned raster. Machine learning has made "the gruel" efficient. We couldn't find this sonic digitized anywhere and, snap, digitized! If you're looking to digitize logs and find some gold in that data, we can help: richrocconsultants.com #crummily #welllogdigitizing #soniclogs #rasters #oilandgas #imagingalgorithms #machinelearning

?? Looking for seismic data on your acreage? ?? Look here. The TRUTH: there isn't a single-source GIS repository for seismic data ?? To make things easy, we created an HTML file with web links to the GIS repositories of most seismic data companies (miss any?). Download the HTML file from the Google Drive below. It won't work if you just click the file on Google Drive. Gotta download it. ?? https://lnkd.in/gFZct9KC If you're considering seismic data, we can help: richroc consultants #seismicdata #seismicsurveys #seismicinterpretation #GIS #oilandgas #lithium #exploration #unconventionals #shale #richroc

Old dip meter logs are extremely valuable. They help determine dip and strike of the geology in the subsurface. This model was built (copied from the late Crain) to explain how the center of a channel sand may be inferred from a dip meter. Context is key, but a model is really helpful. If you're using dip meters (and hopefully tying to seismic), we can help: richrocconsultants.com #richrocconsultants #dipmeter #geology #channelsands #petrophysics #seismicinterpretation #sequencestratigraphy #strikeanddip #oilandgas

All models are wrong, but some find the big kahunas. Data in the exploration phase is sparse and the geologic model reigns supreme as it can lay the groundwork to understand the geologic system: source, migration, reservoir, trap, seal. richroc constructed this geological model using strike and dips from outcrops in-between well control (miles and miles apart). Isn't it so much easier to visualize the subsurface with a model? Rise early, build models, strike oil. Next -> seismic! #oilandgas #lithium #CCUS #richroc

Any geoscientist can generate this cross plot to determine if seismic inversion from seismic data may be worth consideration. Here's how to start: 1) Clearly define your objectives (ideally with well logs). Are you looking for gas, oil, lithology, porosity, (we're looking for all of it) 2) Calculate p-wave velocity (Vp) & s-wave velocity (Vs) from sonic logs 3) Compute acoustic impedance (density * velocity) 4) Plot acoustic impedance against VpVs This cross plot illustrates subsurface variations in the acoustic impedance space (X-axis) and VpVs space (Y-axis), both of which are obtainable from seismic data (dependent on data quality - logs are crucial, the more, the better). In our case, we color-coded each plot by clay & sodium as we're targeting lithium-bearing evaporites among other minerals. Sodium correlates with increasing acoustic impedance and decreasing VpVs. Clay is opposite as expected. The variance observed justifies seismic inversion. Even if it appears to be a noisier cross plot, it's still worth exploring. It could be due to well log issues, but it might signify a need to ask for expert help. While other rock moduli cross plots can (often are) be helpful, the AI vs VpVs plot is a great starting point. We believe the cost-benefit of seismic inversion is so significant that it should be conducted in nearly all cases. Seismic inversion may not directly impact the reservoir target, though it certainly contributes to the broader geological model, enhancing the big picture. #LithiumExploration #OilandGasExploration #GeophysicsInsights #SeismicInversion #RockPhysics #Petrophysics #GeologicalInterpretation #EnergyExploration #ExplorationGeology #SeismicInterpretation #ReservoirCharacterization #GeologicalModeling
