Arts Improve Individual Well Being. Arts Strengthen Mental Health. This year, the work of the Richmond Symphony throughout our community through our Youth Orchestra programs and training programs was incredibly inspiring. Though, truly, it was the kids who were inspiring. Our Education & Community Engagement team works tirelessly to bring connection, expression and musical instruction and inspiration to students throughout the Richmond Region. Did you know that just 30 minutes of active arts daily can combat the ill effects of isolation and loneliness, reducing anxiety and increasing life satisfaction? That is just one of the many reasons these programs are so important. The Richmond Symphony School of Music creates opportunities for hundreds of students to participate across five youth ensembles - ages 8-18 with weekly rehearsals and 2-4 performances a year. Ensembles range from beginner - intermediate - advanced. Watching these students grow in their musicality as well as their communication skills and emotional well being is extraordinary. Seeing them head into their next phase of life - whether as a music major or something else entirely, is also fulfilling. This season also marked the first year of a pilot program, afterschool training, four days/week for 16 2nd grade students. Their growth - in discipline, music, and communication was pretty exciting to watch this year. As we close out our fiscal year - I am so appreciative of the work of our education team members - our youth orchestra conductors - all of our Richmond Region music educators - the parents, and the students. This is a musical ecosystem, and each person makes it stronger.

The Richmond Symphony is pleased to announce that Eboni Boadi has been named as the organization’s Chief Development Officer. As a member of the Symphony’s executive leadership team, she will create, manage and execute comprehensive development strategies to ensure long-term, sustainable growth and financial resources supporting the Symphony’s vision to change lives through the power of music. - Boadi calls this opportunity a "full circle moment," as her longtime appreciation and love for music started early in her life. “Music is an avenue through which people feel seen, inspired, and united,” Boadi said. “Leading the Richmond Symphony’s efforts to ensure it has every investment it needs, and in the right places, would be one way for me to pay it forward to the next little pig-tailed girl who has yet to discover her talents. We can shape the process, together, just like others did for me.” - A seasoned fundraiser with significant experience at strengths-based, community-centered organizations, Boadi most recently served as Vice President of Philanthropy for the Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national nonprofit organization that works to build the next generation of conservation leaders.
