For many Virginia artists, the residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris is more than just time spent abroad; it’s a journey that transforms their creative vision. This August, Artspace Gallery will bring that journey to life with "Artists at the Atelier," an exhibition that captures the essence of Paris as seen through the eyes of some of Virginia’s finest talents. From August 23 to September 21, 2024, visitors will have the rare opportunity to explore artworks deeply influenced by the vibrant culture and artistic legacy of the City of Light. The story of this exhibition is one of connection—between Virginia and Paris, between artists and their muses, between past experiences and present creations. Curator Beth Beaven Jasper, who herself has completed three residencies at the Cité, reflects on how her time in Paris reshaped her art and forged invaluable bonds with the global arts community. As she leads a gallery talk on August 24, she will unravel the narratives behind each piece, including those by alumni like Michael A. Pierce, Elisabeth Flynn-Chapman, and the late Myron Helfgott, whose enduring spirit will be celebrated through his work.
