Grid is a solutions-oriented news platform that celebrates makers, storytellers, and community builders.

关于我们

Richmond Grid shares stories about people inspired by a purpose beyond themselves. We are interested in hard work, humility, authenticity, and stewardship. And most of all, people who roll up their sleeves and push Richmond forward. As a certified B Corporation, we produce digital content at www.richmondgrid.com, a print publication, and a weekly email newsletter called Here Weekly -- that features Richmond at its best. We feature startup owners, creators, civic leaders, innovators, and more. We deliver our magazine by bike whenever possible, print on FSC-certified paper, use soy-based ink, and donate a portion of our advertising space to local nonprofits. We hope you enjoy reading about the talented people, small businesses, and community organizations that we feature in Grid as much as we enjoy getting to know their stories. Each follows a philosophy and set of practices that are building a more just and caring Richmond. And for that we’re grateful.

For many Virginia artists, the residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris is more than just time spent abroad; it’s a journey that transforms their creative vision. This August, Artspace Gallery will bring that journey to life with "Artists at the Atelier," an exhibition that captures the essence of Paris as seen through the eyes of some of Virginia’s finest talents. From August 23 to September 21, 2024, visitors will have the rare opportunity to explore artworks deeply influenced by the vibrant culture and artistic legacy of the City of Light. The story of this exhibition is one of connection—between Virginia and Paris, between artists and their muses, between past experiences and present creations. Curator Beth Beaven Jasper, who herself has completed three residencies at the Cité, reflects on how her time in Paris reshaped her art and forged invaluable bonds with the global arts community. As she leads a gallery talk on August 24, she will unravel the narratives behind each piece, including those by alumni like Michael A. Pierce, Elisabeth Flynn-Chapman, and the late Myron Helfgott, whose enduring spirit will be celebrated through his work. This exhibition is not just a showcase; it’s an invitation to step into the world of these artists, to see Paris through their eyes, and to experience the magic that only such a journey can create.
