This weekend, 1708 Gallery’s InLight 2024: Grounds for Clearing opens to the public at Pine Camp Cultural Center! This free, nighttime exhibition of light-based art runs November 8-9, 7:00 - 11:00 pm. Featuring multimedia installations, performances, and community projects inspired by Pine Camp’s history and topography. When Pine Camp first came to be, it was a clearing – a space carved out of the pine woods, far outside of the city where people went to heal. This year’s InLight exhibition features over a dozen artists and is curated by Dr. Tiffany E. Barber and Nicole Pollard. Two featured artists, Beth Anne Booth and Ellyn P. (pictured here) organically forged a collaboration inspired by significant pivots in their respective personal journeys. Using their combined expertise in Exhibition Design and Public Art, they’ve created a healing, transformative art experience that amplifies humankind’s sacred connection to nature, and to the breath. In their words – “Our installation for InLight is the visual culmination of our discussions on healing, breathing, the arts, and the natural world. We encourage you to meditate in the spaces between the audible inhales and exhales, honoring the shared human experiences that connect us in grief, gratitude, and presence.” Participating Artists: ? 关于我们
Richmond Grid shares stories about people inspired by a purpose beyond themselves. We are interested in hard work, humility, authenticity, and stewardship. And most of all, people who roll up their sleeves and push Richmond forward. As a certified B Corporation, we produce digital content at www.richmondgrid.com, a print publication, and a weekly email newsletter called Here Weekly -- that features Richmond at its best. We feature startup owners, creators, civic leaders, innovators, and more. We deliver our magazine by bike whenever possible, print on FSC-certified paper, use soy-based ink, and donate a portion of our advertising space to local nonprofits. We hope you enjoy reading about the talented people, small businesses, and community organizations that we feature in Grid as much as we enjoy getting to know their stories. Each follows a philosophy and set of practices that are building a more just and caring Richmond. And for that we’re grateful.

Working to create healthy communities, beautiful spaces, and joyful places through the arts, creativity and connection to nature.
I am deeply grateful to call Richmond home and have the gift of sharing my artistic prayer for deep breaths, connection, and healing with you this weekend as an artist at Inlight. This week has been a heavy lift emotionally, and sometimes, the best balm is to take a deep breath, get outside in nature, and surround yourself with friends and a community that makes you feel connected and hopeful.? I’m honored to be this week’s guest editor of Richmond Grid's partner publication @hereweekly with my recommendations for a little art and nature prescription. sign up for their weekly free email of happenings in the RVA area at Not a Here Weekly subscriber yet? For many Virginia artists, the residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris is more than just time spent abroad; it’s a journey that transforms their creative vision. This August, Artspace Gallery will bring that journey to life with "Artists at the Atelier," an exhibition that captures the essence of Paris as seen through the eyes of some of Virginia’s finest talents. From August 23 to September 21, 2024, visitors will have the rare opportunity to explore artworks deeply influenced by the vibrant culture and artistic legacy of the City of Light. The story of this exhibition is one of connection—between Virginia and Paris, between artists and their muses, between past experiences and present creations. Curator Beth Beaven Jasper, who herself has completed three residencies at the Cité, reflects on how her time in Paris reshaped her art and forged invaluable bonds with the global arts community. As she leads a gallery talk on August 24, she will unravel the narratives behind each piece, including those by alumni like Michael A. Pierce, Elisabeth Flynn-Chapman, and the late Myron Helfgott, whose enduring spirit will be celebrated through his work. This exhibition is not just a showcase; it’s an invitation to step into the world of these artists, to see Paris through their eyes, and to experience the magic that only such a journey can create.
