Richard Bernstein Advisors LLC (“RBA”) is an investment manager focusing on long-only, global equity and asset allocation investment strategies. The Firm manages $15.6 billion (as of September 30, 2024) and is unique in its “top-down” research approach versus the traditional “bottom-up” style of most asset management firms. RBA utilizes proprietary macro indicators to assess market dynamics and then forms portfolios with the assistance of quantitative tools. Portfolios focus on allocating assets across various countries, sectors, size, and style to generate alpha, while minimizing the security selection risk of a more concentrated portfolio. RBA offers sub-advisory services and customized, separately-managed accounts for both their equity and asset allocation strategies. The Firm distributes products through partnerships with some of the world's leading financial institutions, including Eaton Vance, where RBA sub-advises the Eaton Vance Richard Bernstein Equity Strategy Fund and Eaton Vance Richard Bernstein All-Asset Strategy Fund; UBS Wealth Management, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, Ameriprise Financial, Wells Fargo and select RIA platforms, where RBA provides clients with tailored asset-allocation models comprised of ETFs in discretionary wrap programs; and First Trust Portfolios, where RBA creates equity-income and thematic equity-oriented portfolios in a series of unit investment trusts. Additionally, the Firm manages two indexes, the RBA American Industrial Renaissance? Index and the RBA Quality Income Index. RBA is the index provider for an exchange-traded fund available through First Trust Portfolios: the First Trust RBA American Industrial Renaissance? ETF. RBA was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in New York City.

It was a mixed session for the major averages - the Dow closed lower but most of the S&P 500 sectors were in the green. "The fundamentals are coming home to roost and I think the market is slowly almost begrudgingly trying to broaden here," said Richard Bernstein, CEO of Richard Bernstein Advisors. "With what's going on with China and with what's going on with tariffs," said Wells Fargo Investment Institute Senior Global Market Strategist Sameer Samana CFA Samana, "we'll take the U.S. all day long over the international side."?

What a difference 15 years can make! In this interview in The Wall Street Transcript, Dan James Suzuki, CFA from our Partner Richard Bernstein Advisors, talks about the market environment 15 years ago when Richard Bernstein started his namesake company. “(At the time) not only did people not want to own stocks, but people in particular didn’t want to own the U.S. stock market. Which seems almost unfathomable today,” says Dan. “The U.S. was viewed as uninvestable because the U.S. had led the world into a financial crisis”. Instead, investors of the day viewed Emerging Markets as the engine of growth since those markets had seen the best returns in the previous 10 years while US stocks had posted negative returns. Today investors are looking back on 15 years of outperformance by US stocks but RBA’s philosophy has not changed. They still believe “returns are greatest when capital is scarce”. “What RBA wants to do is invest in the areas where the profit trends are improving. Within the U.S., the areas that are seeing acceleration in profits growth are, first and foremost, U.S. small caps,” says Dan.
