RTG CEO, Nicole Reboe joined Movable Ink last night to discuss the changing role of the CMO. Read below for some key takeaways:
Yesterday we hosted our first Movable Pink Collective event in the US in our beautiful new Movable Ink HQ in Union Square. The program was a panel with some of the US’s top executive search leaders including Hillary Mann and Caitlin Kenefick from Spencer Stuart and Nicole Reboe (she/her/hers) from Rich Talent Group who were assembled to discuss the changing role of the CMO against the AI imperative. We were joined by over 30 of our senior clients from across industries and the energy was really electric. There were some *amazing* takeaways from our esteemed panelists - some of my favorites: - Marketing remains a right brain/ left brain function - and though the title and scope continues to evolve - the role itself has only expanded in influence within the organization. 35% of CEO’s were CMOs previously - so clearly the skills are valued by search committees and boards. ?? - When it comes to approaching AI right now - there are two types of leaders - “wolves and ostriches” - be a wolf! ?? - When qualified candidates don’t take - it’s often a function of poor cultural fit or alignment. More and more candidates are taking the time to thoroughly investigate this beforehand and assert their agency in the selection process to set themselves up for success.?? - Approach your own personal brand the way you do the brand that you work for; applying the same business acumen and skillset you bring to marketing your company to your own brand/self. ?? - CMOs are continuing to delegate to their VPs to lead the charge on AI initiatives - this is going to equip this level wonderfully to ascend to the C Suite when they’re ready because they will have an AI fluency and experience needed for the years ahead. ?? - Make an assessment of your gaps for CMO readiness and find ways to fill them in whether it’s volunteering to be on an AI committee to expand your knowledge of the space, joining a non profit board to get closer to finance decisions or taking a seat on a partner customer advisory board to increase your tech fluency. ?? - And lastly - make sure your resume is always updated because it’s busy out there and being able to respond quickly to outreach can make all the difference! ?? Major thanks to Lindley Schneider, Sarah El-Edlibi, MBA, Victoria Parsons, Allyson Federbush, Meaghan Bilinski, Mona Namavari, Tiffany Fitzgerald, Tracy Meyer, Jacqueline Mattia and Rachel Kramer for all your hard work and support! ?? I am so excited that we’ll be announcing our next event in May shortly so stay tuned for more to come from this terrific new program. ??
