Honored to be one of four U.S. representatives from USAF and U.S. Army assisting in the Czech Republic in strengthening its cybersecurity capabilities. Working with their officers, enlisted personnel, and cadets, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and collaborate on critical cyber topics to enhance their operational readiness. Proud to apply what I’ve learned in Rice University's Master of Global Affairs program, where we tackle real-world geopolitical challenges. Looking forward to building stronger partnerships and advancing cyber resilience. https://cyberzizka.cz

"The trip to Paris and working with the Institute for Global Negotiation was an incredible and unforgettable experience that pushed us out of the classroom and into real world scenarios, truly putting our skills to the test" - MGA student Vera Zhao #RiceMGA
Rice University's Master of Global Affairs (MGA) students took their learning beyond the classroom with a weeklong masterclass on international policy negotiation in Paris. Held at the Rice Global Paris Center in collaboration with the Institute for Global Negotiation, this first-ever international education experience provided hands-on training from renowned experts and brought Rice students together with master’s students from Sciences Po. They engaged in high-stakes negotiation exercises, gained insights from distinguished guest speakers, attended the Sciences Po Youth and Leaders Summit, and visited the International Energy Agency (IEA) to explore global energy policy. Beyond academics, the trip fostered a strong sense of camaraderie among the cohort, creating lasting memories and professional connections. As the MGA program celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025, this immersive experience underscores its commitment to preparing future leaders with the skills, knowledge, and networks necessary to navigate the complexities of international policymaking. #RiceSocSci #ShapingTheFuture For more information on the program, visit?https://mga.rice.edu. “The agenda is also likely to be much broader than it was under the first Trump administration,” Tony Payan said. “It will include important topics such as immigration, which will continue to affect the binational relationship; drug trafficking, in particular the issue of fentanyl which is drawing increasing attention in the U.S.; and the review and likely revision of the (U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement) at the end of 2025 and 2026.”
As Donald Trump prepares to take office, Rice University experts weigh in on the potential impacts of his administration’s policies. Ken Medlock, of the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies and Co-Director of Rice University's Master Of Energy Economics, highlights the uncertainty surrounding Trump’s early actions but underscores their potential to reshape global energy markets. Tony Payan, director of the Center for the U.S. and Mexico and Rice University's Master of Global Affairs faculty, anticipates challenges in U.S.-Mexico relations, from immigration and trade to drug trafficking and foreign policy shifts. Mark Jones, a political science professor, notes that Trump’s presidency is likely to align closely with Texas Republican priorities, influencing policy on border security, energy, and diversity issues. Other experts include John Diamond on economic policy, and David Satterfield on Middle East diplomacy. #RicesocSci #ShapingTheFuture For interviews, contact Rice University’s media relations team. Check out this excellent piece about the value of networking and taking advantage of opportunities that arise, written by Master of Global Affairs student, Anna Lucas! #RiceMGA #RiceSocSci #ShapingTheFuture
Rice Master of Global Affairs '25 | Incoming NYU Law '25 | Current UN Intern & Baker Institute Intern | Researching Tech Governance & Arms Control Negotiations
Excited to share that I’ve written my very first blog post for Rice University’s Graduate Student Ambassadors program. Writing this was a reflective and rewarding experience where I opened up about my journey as an introvert navigating the world of networking. In the post, I share how my perspective on networking has shifted during my time in Rice University's Master of Global Affairs program. From reframing what networking means to finding authentic ways to connect, I’ve grown so much through this process. Some highlights from the blog: - Rethinking Networking: It’s not transactional—it’s about building trust and community. - Leveraging Opportunities: How attending conferences in Zurich and Bangkok opened doors for me professionally. - Embracing Rejection: Persistence is key, and every ‘no’ is a step closer to a ‘yes.’ The 10% success rate compounds into serious gains over time. For anyone who’s ever felt skeptical about the importance networking, I hope my reflections can provide some encouragement and practical tips. Writing this piece alongside my speechwriting and research internship with the International Telecommunication Union has made me realize how powerful storytelling can be, and I’m looking forward to sharing more in the future. ??
