Last week, I had the privilege of attending "A Thriving Southwest Georgia Reception & Visioneering Event" in the City of Thomasville - GA , hosted by the Georgia Health Policy Center and Georgia State University - Andrew Young School of Policy Studies The event fostered thought-provoking discussions on building a healthier, thriving Southwest Georgia for all who live, work, learn, and play in the region. The energy in the room was electric, with dynamic conversations that encouraged critical thinking and forward-visioning. A highlight of the event was engaging with Ambassador Andrew Young. This was my first time meeting Ambassador Young. We instantly connected over our shared experience as Howard University graduates who transferred from an HBCU—and even our love for music! It was an honor to share that "The Impossible Dream," his favorite song, has been part of my performance repertoire for 20 years. I look forward to hosting him for dinner at The Vicks Estate, Farm, & Fishery when he next visits Albany. This event was a testament to the power of collaboration and vision. I’m excited about what’s ahead for Southwest Georgia! ?? [Photos attached] #ThrivingSWGA #Visioneering #CommunityBuilding #HowardUniversity #Leadership #TheImpossibleDream #CommunityEngagement

From Classroom to Creation: This past week, Innovation Day 2025 in Thomasville proved that the future of problem-solving, creativity, and entrepreneurship is already in motion—right here in our communities. Innovation often feels reserved for major tech hubs, GA AIM Project 3 is breaking barriers, ensuring that the next generation of creators gets hands-on experience with AI and manufacturing. As Quia Cunningham put it best: “Innovation is not just happening in big cities—it’s happening right here in Thomasville.” That truth came to life as young wowed the crowd with their Chicken Poop Remover invention, while the team behind The Genius Cane showcased a solution that could impact lives. A huge thank you to Caison Kirkland for telling this story and capturing the impact of this event. And to all the students, educators, and industry leaders who showed up—this is just the beginning. The future isn’t waiting. It’s being built right now.
