By working directly with beekeepers in the Brazilian countryside, we were able to source an organic honey we loved and support local communities with a first-of-its-kind fair trade agreement. #NationalHoneyMonth marks the time when many beekeepers across the country are harvesting honey. There are many different methods, but we’re partial to the ‘hot knife’ method pictured here, which melts off part of the beeswax, allowing the honey inside to flow freely. Ever heard of Broomfield, Colorado? Here’s the one thing you need to know about it?? Tonight, in Broomfield, at the Omni Interlocken Hotel, several hundred conservation-minded folks will be gathering in “butterfly themed formal attire” to celebrate butterflies and the thousands of other species of pollinators that keep our world in bloom. Our favorite species is the western honey bee (apis mellifera), for obvious reasons. But we, as humans, count on all kinds of invertebrate species to pollinate wildflowers and crops. Tonight’s event in Broomfield, Colorado is the 2024 Butterfly Ball, put on every year by the fine folks at @Butterfly Pavilion, who are located right up the street from us here on the outskirts of Denver. Every year, this event raises funds and plenty of awareness for pollinator conservation worldwide. While tickets are sold out, you can still support pollinators by visiting or donating to Butterfly Pavilion –– or by choosing Local Hive Honey. (We donate a portion of proceeds to Butterfly Pavilion every year.)
