We’re celebrating Women’s History Month by spotlighting remarkable trailblazers and visionaries who have shaped our world. Join us as we celebrate the extraordinary women whose courage, innovation, and leadership continue to inspire generations and transform industries. Lilly Ledbetter is a champion for workplace equality whose fight for fair pay reshaped labor rights in the United States. Born in 1938 in Alabama, Ledbetter spent nearly two decades working at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, unaware that she was being paid significantly less than her male counterparts for the same work. When she discovered the wage gap, she took legal action, leading to a landmark case that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Although the court ruled against her due to a technicality in the statute of limitations, Ledbetter’s fight ignited a national movement for pay equity. In 2009, her advocacy led to the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the first bill signed into law by President Obama, ensuring fairer opportunities for workers facing pay discrimination. • Student Retention: A Leadership Imperative in Higher Education Higher education leaders know that retaining students is just as important as recruiting them. But with shifting demographics, financial challenges, and evolving student expectations, retention requires a strategic and holistic approach. Here are three key areas where leadership can make a difference: -Proactive Support Systems – Early-alert systems, proactive advising, and mental health resources can help identify at-risk students before they disengage. -Engagement & Belonging – Fostering a sense of community through mentoring, inclusive campus environments, and student organizations increases persistence. -Flexible & Relevant Learning – Offering career-aligned curricula, hybrid learning options, and competency-based education ensures students see the value in staying. How is your institution tackling student retention in 2025? #HigherEdLeadership #StudentSuccess #RetentionMatters #HigherEducation #ExecutiveSearchFirm

  • In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting trailblazing women who have broken barriers and shaped history. One such leader is Katharine Graham, the powerhouse behind The Washington Post. Her leadership not only transformed the newspaper industry but also cemented her legacy as one of the most influential women in media. Born in 1917, Graham grew up surrounded by journalism, as her father purchased The Washington Post in 1933. She attended the University of Chicago and later joined the family business, but it wasn’t until the sudden passing of her husband in 1963 that she took the reins as publisher. At a time when women rarely held executive roles, Graham defied expectations and led The Post through some of the most defining moments in American journalism. Under her leadership, The Washington Post became a beacon of investigative reporting. She made the bold decision to publish the Pentagon Papers in 1971, exposing government secrets about the Vietnam War. Just a year later, she backed the reporting that uncovered the Watergate scandal, ultimately leading to President Nixon’s resignation. In 1972, she became the first female CEO of a Fortune 500 company, paving the way for future women leaders. Her memoir, Personal History, won a Pulitzer Prize, solidifying her place in history. Katharine Graham’s courage and vision continue to inspire generations of women in leadership and journalism. • We're kicking off Women's History Month by spotlighting remarkable trailblazers and visionaries who have shaped our world. Join us as we celebrate the extraordinary women whose courage, innovation, and leadership continue to inspire generations and transform industries. Ava DuVernay is a trailblazing filmmaker, producer, and advocate who has made history as a Black woman in Hollywood. Born in 1972 in Long Beach, California, DuVernay didn't begin her filmmaking career until her 30s, previously working in public relations. DuVernay's breakthrough came with her second feature film, "Middle of Nowhere" (2012), which earned her the Best Director Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, making her the first Black woman to win this prestigious award. She gained international recognition with "Selma" (2014), a historical drama about Martin Luther King Jr. and the voting rights marches. This film made her the first Black female director to be nominated for a Golden Globe and to have a film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. DuVernay continued breaking barriers with the documentary "13th" (2016), which examined the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States, earning an Oscar nomination. Her adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time" (2018) made her the first Black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget exceeding $100 million. Beyond her filmmaking, DuVernay has been a powerful advocate for representation in Hollywood. She founded ARRAY, a film collective focused on amplifying the work of women and people of color. Her television series "Queen Sugar" employed all female directors across multiple seasons, creating opportunities for women in the industry.
