November is #NationalAdoptionMonth. During this month, #NASW reflects on the benefits of adoption and social workers’ roles in helping children and their adoptive families. Social workers can continue to support adoption through intervention, advocacy, training, awareness campaigns and professional development. This month is also a time to explore ways social workers can support and encourage the adoption of teenagers. https://buff.ly/3CxgRpM

On #TransgenderDayOfRemembrance, we honor those lost to violence and hate. The NASW’s National Committee on LGBTQ+ Issues stands against the harmful political attacks and misinformation that fuel this violence. Too often, it targets trans people at the intersection of gender, race, class, and sexuality. The false narratives used to spread hate against the 2SLGBTQIA+ community are dehumanizing and dangerous. As we remember those taken from us, we renew our commitment to advocacy, justice, and a future where all transgender people can live free from violence and discrimination. #TDOR #TransRights #EndHate #LGBTQIA #SocialWork #TransVisibilityc#TransDayOfRemembrance, #TDoR2024

Meet our Chapter's Promising Practitioners - Providence College Award Honoree 2024: Isabella Ferrucci! Isabella Ferrucci is a senior double major in social work and psychology at Providence College. She had the privilege to experience her first undergraduate social work placement at Nicholas Ferri Middle School in Johnston, RI, where she learned to understand the inner workings of a school and realized her love of working with children. The mix of advocacy but also individual work has helped Isabella to understand why both are incredibly important. Over the summer Isabella interned at a private practice where she was provided the rare opportunity to observe clinical sessions. This year Isabella is placed at Nowell Academy in downtown Providence which provides a special balance between motherhood and education to support the family system. Isabella’s love of social work has grown since working at each school, learning from her professors, and providing rewarding services to those in need. Isabella plans to apply to MSW school to further her education and expand her opportunities in the social work profession. Learn more and register for the Awards Ceremony 2024 (November 21) here: https://lnkd.in/dT3CMpDB
