  • We are participating in a three day workshop focused on strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) in developing Kenya’s CSO complementary report to ACERWC. The discussions center on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) and aim to enhance the role of CSOs in advancing child rights across Africa. The workshop seeks to increase knowledge on effective report development, raise awareness on key child rights issues, foster stronger collaborations among CSOs, and improve state reporting by governments. A key outcome is on the development of a roadmap for the submission of CSO complementary reports. The engagement highlights the importance of collective action, with the Executive Director of Eastern Africa Child Rights Network (EACRN) emphasizing the need for collaboration to ensure the protection and realization of child rights. Looking ahead, the #CSOForum is set to take place in Lesotho, followed by the ACERWC Committee Sessions and the Africa Children’s Summit. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

African governments must align their policies with the needs of young people by: ? Removing age-based restrictions on access to contraception and other SRHR services. Did you know? 60% of adolescent girls in Africa have unmet needs for modern contraception. (United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) ? Strengthening laws that protect youth reproductive rights and prevent child marriage. 37% of girls in Sub-Saharan Africa are married before the age of 18. (UNICEF ) ? Increasing domestic funding for SRHR programs instead of relying on unpredictable foreign aid. Only 5% of health budgets in Sub-Saharan Africa are allocated to SRHR. • We participated in the Optimizing the Pharmacy Channel (OPC) Demand Generation & Awareness Creation Landscaping Workshop, hosted by Insupply Health. The workshop brought together key partners to assess the current landscape of contraceptive demand generation and develop strategic approaches for sustainable impact. Discussions focused on various aspects of demand generation. Philips Therapeutics Limited shared insights on how medical representatives can effectively engage pharmacy retailers, highlighting challenges in raising awareness and the critical role of education in increasing the uptake of women’s health products. The Ministry of Health provided an overview of Kenya’s family planning demand generation efforts, emphasizing advocacy, policy engagement, and communication strategies. Insupply presented findings from the OPC and Market Test (MT) project, focusing on improving access to and continued use of quality self-care and family planning products through pharmacies. The workshop also featured a gallery walk, where participants explored various demand-generation initiatives led by different organizations. Interactive group discussions examined how digital tools, public sector linkages, and research and measurement can enhance demand creation efforts within pharmacy channels. As part of the workshop outcomes, discussions focused on developing a roadmap for demand creation in family planning, outlining key actions to ensure impactful and coordinated future interventions. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

  • We conducted a medical camp under the Sex & Samfund / Danish Family Planning Association project on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Gender Equality in the workplace. Organized in collaboration with the Federation of Kenya Employers, the event took place at KIWASCO’s satellite filter plant, providing essential healthcare services to employees and the surrounding community. The camp focused on SRHR, offering family planning counseling and a variety of contraceptive options. Participants also accessed services such as STI screening and treatment, HIV testing and counseling, and general medical consultations. Additional screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar were available, along with nutritional counseling to support overall well-being. Beyond healthcare, the camp emphasized workplace wellness and gender equality, with interactive sessions addressing sexual harassment, mental health, and psychosocial support. An occupational safety and health inspection was also carried out with the support of the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health and Federation of Kenya Employers, ensuring a safer working environment for employees. Both KIWASCO’s head office and the satellite filter plant acknowledged and appreciated the importance of GBV referral pathways, reinforcing their commitment to creating safer workplaces. The initiative extended beyond employees, benefiting the surrounding community, which expressed gratitude for the accessible healthcare services. This engagement reaffirmed the importance of integrating SRHR and workplace wellness initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and expanding outreach efforts to enhance access to essential health services. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

  • We participated in the @thePDFestival 2025, that brought together key stakeholders from civil society, government, media, youth groups, and other organizations to engage in discussions on pressing social and political issues. Reproductive health and rights, gender equality, governance, and civic participation were central themes throughout the event. Our engagement ensured that SRHR remained a key focus, with participation in critical discussions addressing policy implementation, youth-friendly reproductive health services, and the intersection of disability and SRHR. Sessions highlighted gaps in SRHR policies, the need for comprehensive sexuality education and barriers such as stigma, cost, and misinformation that continue to limit access to reproductive health services. The discussions also emphasized the importance of inclusive healthcare services tailored to the needs of persons with disabilities. Key takeaways from the festival underscored the need for stronger policy advocacy, increased youth engagement, and strategic partnerships to advance SRHR. There was a strong call for collaborative efforts between civil society organizations, healthcare providers, and government institutions to improve reproductive health access. Strengthening community-based education programs and creating platforms for youth to engage policymakers emerged as critical priorities for future advocacy. The festival provided a valuable opportunity to amplify SRHR issues and foster meaningful dialogue. #RHNKImpact #RHNK4SRHR

  • Gender stereotypes continue to hinder progress in achieving equitable access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) worldwide. As Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), aptly stated, there is an urgent need to address deeply ingrained societal norms that limit the potential of women and girls, particularly in SRHR realization. Join us at the 8th RHNK Pan-African AYSRHR Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, from June 24–27, 2025, as we explore solutions to these pressing challenges.
