Despite the uncertainty, some federal funding is still alive and well! U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is maintaining the call for resilience grant applications under Joint Assessment for Resilience of Resilience in Vulnerable Infrastructure Systems (JARVIS). This is a great opportunity to implement Rhizome's suite of resilience modeling technologies for utilities of all sizes. Unlike extreme weather events, these grant opportunities are becoming less frequent, so now is the time to advance utility approaches to proactive risk mitigation. Please reach out if there is interest in collaborating on deploying resilience models and tools!

Extreme weather is not partisan, and neither is grid resilience. The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's climate data is critical to utilities and their customers. Targeted resilience planning saves lives and money. As our CTO and Co-Founder Rahul Dubey told Latitude Media's Lisa Martine Jenkins: "The decisions today will impact how the grid will behave in the next six months, the next 12 months, the next 18, the next 24." Electric utilities are on-track for all-time highs on capital expenditures, reaching $192B by 2027. Meanwhile, there were 27 confirmed extreme weather events with losses exceeding $1 billion dollars each. The intersection of increases in CapEx and climate risk is a clear call for targeted resilience investments. Focusing these funds is critical for both utilities and their customers. The Franklin fire in Malibu has destroyed 4,000 acres and several structures. It has also plunged tens of thousands of residents in the region into darkness, leaving them without power and cellphone communications. The Los Angeles Times provides detailed insights on how the destruction of cellphone towers and other vital infrastructure in the area that has been caught in the path of the inferno is making this fire uniquely difficult. The impacts of fires are multifaceted, and extinguishing them is dually essential to restoring infrastructure services as well as maintaining community safety. https://lnkd.in/et_gi79r
