“This focus that we tend to still have on the importance of a legal right to abortion — [while] absolutely critical — ignores all the kinds of violations that happened that weren’t even seen as reproductive rights violations.” Not to miss: Law professor and social justice scholar Dorothy Roberts draws a throughline from slavery to the Supreme Court’s recent abortion ruling in her 2024 Biddle Lecture at Harvard Law School. She argues that understanding the historic roots of various forms of reproductive oppression is critical to understanding how laws surrounding compelled pregnancy, criminalized pregnancy, family separation, and abortion are all interlocking. ?? We leverage capital to advance reproductive and maternal health equity.
关于我们
Our mission is to advance reproductive and maternal health equity by intentionally leveraging capital to center the needs, experiences, and perspectives of historically marginalized people in decision-making. The multibillion-dollar reproductive and maternal health market has tremendous potential for public health impact, but it has been built on flawed systems that perpetuate unjust outcomes for women of color, low-income women, and others directly affected by systemic inequities. Our work is to transform this market. Operating in a novel impact space, we seek opportunities to move investment toward reproductive and maternal health in a way that does not perpetuate harm and that will yield measurable, sustainable improvements in health outcomes. Our activities include impact investment to stimulate innovation and equity in women’s health, ecosystem building to support entrepreneurs and investors incorporating health equity into business strategy, narrative change to shift harmful social norms that influence the market, and corporate advocacy to promote corporate responsibility and improve public policy regarding reproductive and maternal health.

The Youth Reproductive Health Access Survey (YouR HeAlth) from Power to Decide found that about 25% of young people did not have the information they needed to make a decision about whether using birth control is right for them. ?? Adasina Social Capital and Rhia Ventures are thrilled to share an important update regarding shared efforts to leverage capital markets and advance social justice. Rhia Ventures is assuming ownership of The Due Diligence 2.0 Commitment (DD2.0), originally launched and managed by Adasina.?We are deeply grateful to Rachel J. Robasciotti and the Adasina team for this opportunity. DD2.0 was created to catalyze movement of capital to BIPOC managers. It challenges asset owners and financial advisors to leverage their position as capital movers to address systemic racial inequities by allocating more capital to BIPOC managers, communities, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders. Over the coming months, Rhia will lead an evaluation and redesign process to continue moving the work forward. Adasina will remain actively engaged in this process. ?? Access to health care requires more than getting a product on store shelves or a new facility opening its doors. It requires analysis of the barriers to a product or service, and barriers for whom. Access means: ?? Affordability: how do product pricing or service charges relate to a client's ability and willingness to pay? ?? Availability: the extent to which a company or provider has the resources (personnel, technology, etc.) to meet the needs of the client. ?? Accessibility: how easily can a client physically acquire a product or visit a service location? ?? Accommodation: is the delivery of a product or service organized in ways that meet the constraints and preferences of the client (hours of operation, communications, etc.) ?? Acceptability: is the client interested in a product or service? Is the client comfortable with the company brand or intrinsic characteristics of service providers? Does the company or provider accept a client’s type of health coverage? Our CEO Erika Seth Davies spoke to Emily Shugerman reporting for The Guardian. https://lnkd.in/e7iUf4du #HealthEquity #WomensHealth #ReproductiveHealth #MaternalHealth #HealthSystems

To every voter who cast their ballot in support of protecting reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and fundamental democratic ideals - thank you! States and communities made incredible strides and built strong coalitions. Wins on the ballot measures in Arizona, Missouri, Nevada, Montana, Colorado, New York, and Maryland are a testament to how strongly voters feel about ensuring reproductive health care access for anyone who needs it. Our lives, our families, and our futures remain on the line. Until all women and people capable of pregnancy are free to live in full autonomy over their reproductive journey, none of us is free. Intentionally moving capital to build a more inclusive society and economy remains essential to upholding democratic principles. At Rhia Ventures, we activate private and public sector capital to advance reproductive and maternal health equity in service of racial justice. Our commitment to the work continues, and our resolve is unwavering.
