Indigenous entrepreneurs received only .004% of venture capital funding in 2021. The number of Indigenous women who have received funding is even less. A 2022 industry benchmark survey by Deloitte didn’t even include the statistics for Native American, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian venture capitalists in their report, instead folding them into the category for “people of color” or “women of color.” Organizations like the Native American Capital and Investment Alliance "NACIA" are working to bridge the gap between Indigenous startups, entrepreneurs, and equity and debt capital. According to the US Census Bureau, Native American-owned businesses contribute over $33 billion to the US economy every year and employ over 200,000 people. https://lnkd.in/emY2yPj7 #VentureCapital #CapitalMarkets #IndigenousLeaders #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Maven’s $90 million round ???? accounted for 20% of all VC funding for women’s health in 2022. Women-focused health tech ventures still attract just 2% of health tech venture funding. And, ironically (or not), new research has found that women’s health ventures led by women are less likely to get funding than those run by men. Meanwhile, women-focused health tech ventures have weathered the fundraising drought better than the broader health tech sector. https://lnkd.in/gAtmrhdR

Today’s the day ? …the team behind RH Capital has officially launched Foreground Capital, a new venture firm putting women’s health front and center!? While our name may have changed, the same team of Elizabeth Bailey, Stasia Obremskey and Alice Zheng will continue managing RH Capital Funds I/II and supporting our portfolio. We will continue in our board roles, and continue to provide the same resources, value-added services and active partnership that we have over the past 5 years. What’s changing? Aside from our new Foreground emails and titles, we’re gearing up to launch a new fund later this year, with the same laser focus on women’s health innovation and health equity. Rhia Ventures played an instrumental role in incubating and launching RH Capital when investment in women’s health was scarce. We're deeply grateful for their support and proud of what we've achieved together. With a positive market shift, we’re excited to take the next step as an independent venture firm, allowing us to scale, attract new capital, and continue investing in exceptional companies. Rhia Ventures will still support new funding programs under the RH Capital umbrella. Stay in the loop by signing up for our newsletter at https://lnkd.in/dSNgUtkM and following us on LinkedIn for more exciting updates! We look forward to continuing this journey together and can’t wait to share more soon! ?? #womenshealth #healthequity #venturecapital #vc #healthcare #startups
