What happens when empathy is the cornerstone of your business model to deliver healthier maternal outcomes? Cayaba Care is creating a new standard for comprehensive maternal health care support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum that leverages community-based care. Congratulations to CEO Adaeze Enekwechi and team for such a well-deserved highlight in Forbes, authored by Lisa K. Fitzpatrick MD, MPH, MPA. ????
“Our power is in partnerships with moms, their doctors, and the broader healthcare system. Because of this, we can see where the system is breaking down and step in to bridge the gap.” – Dr. Adaeze Enekwechi Cayaba Care is honored to have sparked the curiosity of Forbes, who took the time to probe beyond the surface of our mission to reshape maternal healthcare, and explore in depth how we are aiming to build a replicable path toward achieving maternal health equity. The article dives into how our human-first approach combines deep empathy, trust-building, and meaningful connections with care providers to deliver tangible results. From reducing fear in the healthcare system to empowering Black mothers to advocate for themselves, they see how our work is making a measurable difference. What sets us apart according to Forbes? The incorporation of deep listening and connection with a trusted source of support, which is of high value to patients and to the healthcare system. We partner with trusted community organizations to find team members who not only have the skills but also the shared understanding of culture, family dynamics, and the lived experiences of our members. This methodical process, which can take months, ensures the right fit for both our team and the families we serve. We’re proud to lead with humility, listen deeply, and create solutions that can change lives—and the maternal health landscape. ?? Recent findings on vaginal dysbiosis may lead to improved prevention of cervical cancer among Native women. ?? “The study is unique in that we are doing it through the lens of Indigenous people and researchers,” said researcher Naomi Lee, PhD. Vaginal dysbiosis is a disruption in the balance of bacteria that increases the risk of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which can cause cervical cancer. The vaginal microbiome can dictate whether someone clears HPV or becomes infected and then at higher risk for developing cancer. Researchers found that protective microorganisms, which keep the vaginal microbiome healthy by guarding against pathogens, were dominant in 58% of non-Native women compared with 44% of Native women. Native women also had higher rates of vaginal dysbiosis and were more frequently infected with high-risk HPV. Researchers also spotlighted a connection between health disparities attributed to sociodemographic factors and a person’s healthy defense mechanisms. The hope is that these findings may ultimately lead to an intervention to modulate the microbiome in women with HPV and prevent the progression to cervical cancer. This potential intervention, along with existing vaccination recommendations, could lead to new prevention strategies. ?? Our portfolio company Evvy developed an at-home vaginal microbiome test, which is the first and only CLIA, CAP, and CLEP certified test that screens for all bacteria and fungi in the vaginal and urinary microbiome. Evvy’s website offers educational resources about the vaginal microbiome and vaginal health. ?? https://lnkd.in/eWvF42PZ #HealthEquity #WomensHealth #SexualHealth #Oncology #NativeWomen #IndianCountry

Congratulations to Eli Health whose Hormometer won Best of Innovation in the CES Innovation Awards 2025 program for Digital Health. Eli Health developed an at-home hormone testing system that uses a smartphone app to measure hormone levels in saliva. Eli's technology provides personalized hormone profiles to transform how women manage their hormonal health in areas like menopause, fertility, contraception, and endocrine conditions. When designed and deployed with intention, remote monitoring health technologies can promote health equity by giving individuals the ability to monitor vital signs from home, thereby providing more frequent monitoring and early intervention opportunities for chronic and acute conditions. This is especially relevant for individuals and communities in health care deserts, rural areas, and areas with health care facility or workforce shortages. ?? ?? A survey conducted by our portfolio company Cadence OTC found widespread confusion about the legality of emergency contraception. Only 40 percent of participants knew that emergency contraception in the form of the morning-after pill is legal in all 50 states.? “It’s primarily a result of some people conflating the morning-after pill with the abortion pill, believing that the morning-after pill will end an early pregnancy and therefore is illegal in states with abortion bans,” Cadence OTC co-Founder Samantha Miller ?? wrote to The Hill. For years, health advocates and clinicians have voiced the need for promoting greater public awareness and education about emergency contraception, and the current status of reproductive and maternal health in the US heightens this urgency exponentially. ?? https://lnkd.in/gfSYxqd4 #HealthEquity #WomensHealth #ReproductiveHealth #VentureCapital #ImpactInvesting
