32 Reynolds’ teams recently came together at a local bowling alley in Winston-Salem, NC to support BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS SERVICES, INC.'s largest and longest-running fundraiser, a tradition that we’ve been part of for over 40 years ago. The Mardi Gras themed event marked the culmination of weeks of fundraising to support the work of the organization. This year, Reynolds raised over $48,000 through employee donations, Reynolds American Foundation matching, and a corporate donation from Reynolds American Inc. Thanks to all who donated, bowled, and volunteered to make this event a great success!

Did you know? Katharine Smith Reynolds, the wife of R.J. Reynolds, took an active interest in R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She encouraged R.J. to open lunchrooms that served hot meals to both white and black employees, persuaded him to permit later arrivals for female workers so they might attend to duties at home, and created a daycare for employees’ children. R.J. himself reportedly remarked that she was the smartest woman he knew and that her good judgement and wise counsel contributed to his success. In the community, she claimed many leadership roles in local and national philanthropic associations, particularly those committed to progressive reform, improving rural living and working conditions and welfare for women and children. In 1919, in memory of R.J. Reynolds, Katharine donated funds and land for the creation of the R.J. Reynolds High School to honor R.J., who was so interested in the development of the city.
