We are heartbroken that last month a dear friend and volunteer of Revitalize CDC, Dale Edge, passed away. Dale was our MC at all of our #GreenNFit Springfield events in the Old Hill neighborhood. I still think back to the day I received the letter in the mail first talking about what your plans were for my neighborhood. At first I thought what many others thought…scam. I felt it must too good to be true. Maybe it was desperation for help that made me reach out more and call the number on the letter. It wasn’t long until many of your team members reached out and helped me every step of the way in revitalizing my dream home my wife and I bought just 5 years ago. I don’t think the team quite understands how much I needed help particularly at that time in my life. I was just coming home a few months before from almost passing away in the hospital and being in a coma for over a week. I needed months on rehab between Baystate and Mercy Medical centers before I could even get back home. By the time I was able to be home I wasn’t able to maintain my property. It took me some time to gain my strength back enough to even push a lawn mower. The work that your team did with my family still brings me to tears. Hundreds of people helping me all day, shutting down the block and helping me and my neighbors. It was amazing, my kids were in shock when it was all over. We even had our house completely painted and all new stairs to help walk in the front door. It was unbelievable! They also brought the neighborhood so much closer. Neighbor's from down the street who we never would have known we met during the event. Now we drive down the street actually waving at neighbors we met at the event who also got help! I have lived on this block my entire life and I can not tell you how much this helped our community! All of Lancashire Road thanks you for bringing us up and together!
