Do you practice Leave No Trace (LNT) principles in the outdoors? What about in your organization? When I took trip my first trip with Cairn Leadership Strategies, we talked about the 7 Leave No Trace Principles in terms of protecting the Black Canyon as we spent a long weekend canoeing down its waters and camping on its beaches. To my surprise and delight, we also talked about LNT in terms of organizational conservation. My favorite principle to ponder in this regard is "Minimize Campfire Impacts." It is abundantly important to use organizational resources responsibly and to take swift action when something gets too hot so as not to spread the blaze and leave lasting damage. This summer, I am excited to be joining a group of @cairnleadership guides to earn our certifications as a Level 1 Instructor. I'll be happy to share more Leave No Trace principles with you on a hike or in your org! Want to learn more? Check out this video about how Roxborough State Park in Littleton, CO earned their status as a Gold Standard Site. If you’re even in the area, visit! I can attest to the beauty of this park and its incredible educational infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gmMRmMvj

In my latest Workplace Wellbeing presentation, I led a discussion on navigating feedback with grit and grace. Structured feedback and unplanned confrontations are full of emotion and we tend to remember the tense moments the most. So, I made sure to put the "breathe" slide into my deck multiple times. The first time it appeared, the exhale was audible and every single participant relaxed their body position. We laughed at how easy it was to adopt the tension of our memory or anticipated conflict. We breathed together and moved on to learning new skills. Aside from a deep breath, two of my favorite resources for feedback are: Louise Evans 5 Chairs Model (we cannot control the response of others but we sure can take ownership of how we show up): https://lnkd.in/eCvwfSN Kim Scott's Radical Candor Matrix: https://lnkd.in/gWnKbjBh What are your favorite tools? #strengthscoach #navigatingfeedback #workplacewellbeing #leadership

  • You are surrounded by nature. Have you noticed? Yesterday, I led a group of higher education professionals on a nature tour of their own campus. We did not walk far or fast, we simply ambled through the natural spaces tucked between the buildings and took a break from the hustle and bustle of campus life. We watched swallows weave through the air outside their nesting site, a butterfly landed on the outstretched hand of one staff member, and at one stop on a eucalyptus-lined trail, someone said, “I have worked here for 17 years and didn’t know this was here.” We are meant to have a reciprocal relationship with nature. Often, we forget and think of nature as just a space “over there.” Luckily, the positive benefits of being in nature can be measured as quickly as 5-15 minutes. So, take a moment to immerse yourself and see what you can find. It might make your day, or even begin to shift the culture of wellbeing at your workplace, one step at a time. • "The ultimate mistake in discipline is the ultimatum." - Marcelene Cox I am in awe of my friends who have strong discipline. They seem to be on top of the world, unshakeable, and focused. When I try to apply their level of discipline, I tend to get overwhelmed by the pressure of meeting my goal. That's why I like this quote. It serves as are reminder that the true power of discipline is in the continuous pursuit of excellence, not necessarily a singular outcome. Recognize this quote? Marcelene coined many quips in her Reader's Digest column. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/g3_n6dMx #discipline #top5strengths #strengthscoach
