Connecting Veterans and Military Families to free health services. Equipping Veteran-ready Health Providers.
关于我们
Our mission is to provide free, confidential mental and physical health services to Veterans, Service Members, and their families. Our vision is an improved quality of life for Veterans, Service Members, and their families. We believe it is our collective responsibility to offer support, healing, and access to mental and physical health services for our Veteran communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We support our mission by recruiting a network of licensed, independent mental and physical health providers who are willing to contribute their services free of cost to Veterans, Service Members, and their families. In addition to the work we do to recruit and support the provider network, we also; ? Educate and mobilize our community to raise awareness regarding the challenges experienced by returning veterans, service members, and their families ? Host clinical workshops to provide further training to our volunteer providers ? Link veterans, service members, and their families to current and relevant information and resources ? Partner and collaborate with military and civilian Veteran Service Organizations to maximize our ability to give back and reach our Veterans communities The Returning Veterans Project depends solely on private donations from individuals, foundations, small business, and corporations.

Sally and Jenn went to visit one of our clinics this month! The Windhaven Veterans Program provides equine assisted group therapy at no cost to service members and veterans. The goal of this group partnered with horses is to support with healing from the debilitating impacts of trauma. These services provide an alternative option for those who have not benefited from or may avoid traditional therapy. These services are effective, safe, well-tolerated, and reduce the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Those that have participated experience a decrease in not just the symptoms of PTSD but also a decrease in anxiety, feelings of detachment, physical pain, irritability, fatigue, and an increase in energy. Feedback from those that have participated include statements such as: ? “I feel comfortable enough to be un-guarded.” ? “I’m communicating better.” ? “My confidence is building.” ? “I enjoy coming out to be with the horses. I want to be with them every day.” ? “Little steps to a new life.” ? “I look forward to next week.” ? “Feelings of stress fade away once I am here.” *These services are offered in La Center, WA. Each year, the third week of March is highlighted as a time to recognize the important accomplishments of women who have served in the armed forces of the United States. This week we look at a few who hail from the PNW. Dorothy Olsen: Pioneering Aviator of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) Dorothy Olsen, born in 1916 in Woodburn, Oregon, developed a passion for aviation at an early age. She earned her private pilot certificate in 1939, a remarkable achievement for women at that time. During World War II, Olsen joined the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) in 1943, a pioneering organization of female pilots who tested and ferried aircraft. Assigned to the Sixth Ferrying Group in Long Beach, California, Olsen ferried various military aircraft, including high-performance fighters like the P-51 Mustang and the P-38 Lightning. She was particularly fond of the P-51. After the war, Olsen retired from flying, moved to Washington state, and raised a family. In 2009, she was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of her service. Olsen passed away in 2019 at the age of 103, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication. #mentalhealth #veteranmentalhealth #servicemembers #militaryfamilies #oregon #southwestwashington #rvp #allwhoserved

Each year, the third week of March is highlighted as a time to recognize the important accomplishments of women who have served in the armed forces of the United States. This week we look at a few who hail from the PNW. Major General Tammy Smith: Born in Oakland, Oregon, Tammy Smith has had a distinguished military career marked by groundbreaking achievements. After graduating from Oakland High School, she enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1986. Over the years, she advanced through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership and dedication. In 2012, Smith made history by becoming the first openly gay general officer in the U.S. military following the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. Her promotion to Brigadier General was a significant milestone for LGBTQ+ representation in the armed forces. She continued to break barriers, and in 2016, she was promoted to Major General, serving as the Deputy Commanding General – Sustainment for the Eighth United States Army in South Korea. Throughout her career, Smith has been a trailblazer, advocating for diversity and inclusion within the military. #mentalhealth #veteranmentalhealth #servicemembers #militaryfamilies #oregon #southwestwashington #rvp #allwhoserved
