For those who missed it, the Seattle Times published an article a little while back about the terramation (body composting) industry! I know, I’m a little late to the the game - currently in Guatemala, where the internet connection in the jungle is, well, for the birds… Return Home is deeply grateful to ST journalist Brendan Kiley for shining a light on Return Home’s commitment to caring for kids under 18 at no charge. Since the article came out, we’ve been receiving calls from grieving parents—some as far away as Florida—who have lost a child during the holidays and need our services. As the parents were reaching out I was in the middle of a jungle in Guatemala, tears in my eyes. As Mr. Rogers so wisely said about navigating chaos: ‘Look for the helpers. More NFDA to come, but first a quick shoutout to the team at Return Home! Three years ago, in 2022, Micah, Katey and I walked into our first National Funeral Directors Association convention—so new, so “green,” and full of excitement for what we were building. Fast forward to today, and it’s incredible to see how much we’ve grown, both personally and as a team. This year, eight of us had the honor of being at NFDA, while several more team members held down the fort back home, embodying the strength and dedication that has propelled Return Home forward. We’ve gone from an idea fueled by passion to being recognized as one of the Best of the Best by NFDA for the second time in the three short years we’ve been open for operation. It’s overwhelming and humbling, and it’s a testament to the hard work and heart our entire team pours into what we do every day! Tolkien said it best: “Little by little, one travels far.” We’ve come so far already, and we know this is just the beginning. Thank you to everyone who has supported and believed in us. For starters,?Return?Home once again received the National Funeral Directors Association's Pursuit of Excellence, 'Best of the Best' award. This is the second time we have received this, and all the better to think we have only been open for 3 years. We have come so incredibly far - there are 19,000 funeral?homes?in the U.S., and we have managed to be selected for this award twice. This is all because of the?Return?Home?team - their dedication, professionalism, and heart are quite literally upending our industry. Congratulations to the Homies for achieving what most believed impossible - to not only start a funeral?home?with a brand new disposition, but also to be recognized by our funeral industry peers as best in class. Eight members of our core team will attend the New Orleans NFDA annual convention in October, and they will all be on stage to receive the award. Most of these folks have worked in the industry their entire career, and have never received recognition for their contributions.
