The AirTracer is here! This is a new handheld fog machine that is budget friendly, reliable, and super easy to use. We’ve seen all kinds of low cost mini foggers that have popped up over the past couple of years. Many of them are riddled with issues such as fluid leaks and short life expectancy. This is one we are happy to put our name on and we’re excited to see you solve some problems with it. The fluid cartridges are replaceable and magnetically snap into place. We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the Solo, a new product we’ve been working on at Retrotec. This tool will make high-precision pressure readings more accessible to all types of contractors. Being able to read Pascals accurately teaches us how buildings function and points us to the source of problematic areas. The accurate readings from this gauge can also help us prevent problems from occurring when we test envelopes during construction. Earlier this summer, John Tooley gave us a detailed presentation on MAD AIR, which stands for Mechanical Air Distribution And Interacting Relationships. This all has to do with how a home’s mechanical systems can create problems by pushing and pulling on various parts of the building envelope. These relationships can all change based on whether or not interior doors are open or closed. It’s a fascinating concept, especially if you nerd out on building science as much as we do. John is one of the founding fathers of home performance as we know it in North America. He co-authored the MAD AIR paper back in the 80s, and it is still helping contractors understand the sources of comfort and IAQ problems today. The Solo is the perfect manometer for investigating problematic homes. It’s also the ideal gateway for HVAC contractors to introduce themselves to home performance and apply the lessons learned from MAD AIR.
