  • Check out this article recapping our students experience at the Governor’s Conference.

Last month, three University of Tennessee, Knoxville, students represented the university and the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association at Gov Con 2024. These student ambassadors—Erin Cosentino, Paul Vaughn, and Lily Vincent—spoke with CEHHS student reporter, Cara Smith, to share their experiences and insight for future Hospitality & Tourism Management student attendees. From left to right, they are a fair-skinned young man with shoulder-length curly red hair in a purple suit, a fair-skinned young woman with chest-length wavy blonde hair in a strapless black gown, and a fair-skinned young woman with long, wavy hair that goes from dark to light blonde in a knee-length purple dress.
  • We are excited to share about our recent trip to the Tennessee Hospitality & Tourism Association’s annual Governor’s Conference on Hospitality and Tourism in Chattanooga, TN. Our department was proud to send six students and three faculty/staff to network, engage, and participate in a successful conference. Our students were able to hear from Commissioner of Tourist Development Mark Ezell about all the exciting initiatives and results from the work in the industry across our state. As well as make networking connections and attend educational breakout sessions. Three of the students were chosen as official GovCon Ambassadors and served in a variety of roles throughout the conference joining students studying hospitality in programs across our state. • The Department of Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management is devoted to helping our students find direction and meet their career goals. Today, students in HTM 150 Career Planning and HTM Majors were invited to a Virtual Career Panel with alumni of the program who are in successful hospitality and tourism careers. They shared helpful career advice to students regarding various career planning topics within the industry. Thank you Katherine Pearson, Sam Teegarden, and Catherine La Haie! We appreciate you for taking the time to support the future of the industry.

Lights, camera, ACTION! Brian Wright and Cory Hamm recently joined forces with Professor Jason Carpenter from the Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management program to record several digital learning videos for the RMM 210 class! We are so incredibly honored to have the VolShop represented as a business for retail management students to learn more about. We discussed strategic planning, different forms of marketing, and even innovation with the Pepper robot! While the format and technicality of the videos was much different from Brian and Cory’s Tiny Mic Show videos, it was such a cool experience to see how digital learning video production differs from social media video production. The folks behind the camera for digital learning are so talented and knowledgeable. The care and expertise put into digital learning is yet another reason why the University of Tennessee is a university on the rise! ?? #digitallearning #universityoftennessee #utknoxville #retailmanagement #volshop
