We can never take home for granted ?? #thanksgiving #family #childwelfare #fostercare Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) Arkansas Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Director Tiffany Wright , First Gentleman Bryan Sanders, DHS Secretary Kristi Putnam Project Zero Executive Director Christie Erwin, and other staff and supporters gathered today to place stickers on special 10-foot tall National Adoption Month banners hanging from the DHS Central Office building to signify children featured on the banners who have been adopted or who are in the process of being adopted. DHS recently unveiled the banners featuring photos of children in foster care waiting to be adopted, and they will remain on the building through the end of the year. November is #NationalAdoptionMonth, and teams within DCFS are working closely with key partners including Project Zero to work to identify adoptive homes for waiting children. DHS recently announced that the number of children in foster care waiting to be adopted has fallen below 200 for the first time ever.

The most recent data shows that 39% of #FosterCare cases per year are due to parental drug or alcohol abuse. However, many parents who struggle with #Addiction can and do fight to overcome it. Patrick and Amanda were introduced to drugs by a neighbor during a challenging time. But when their children were removed, they committed to doing everything in their power to bring them home. Today, Patrick and Amanda live in a safe and sober home with their children. They now work for our partner Restore Hope, the organization that helped them every step of the way, as advocates for parents in the same situation. Read their incredible story on our blog! #Recovery #Reunification #ForOthers #ForOthersCollective
