The words we use shape how we see justice, accountability, and healing. In restorative justice, we move away from labels like “offender” and “victim” because harm is more complex than a single act. No one experiences violence for the first time by committing it. Harm is cyclical. People who experience harm often go on to transfer it, sometimes without even realizing it. By saying “Person Who Transferred Harm”, we acknowledge responsibility without reducing a person to their worst moment. By saying “Person Who Experienced Harm”, we recognize the impact of harm without limiting someone to a fixed identity. Justice isn’t just about consequences. It’s about healing. RJIOK offers training, coaching, and consulting in cultural competence and restorative practice.
关于我们
The Restorative Justice Institute of Oklahoma (RJIOK) seeks to transform the retributive and inequitable culture of our state. RJIOK offers training in cultural competence and restorative practices designed with and for individuals, families, schools, and organizations to reduce trauma, dehumanization, and recidivism. The transformation of our culture requires that we shift from authoritarian to authoritative with clear limits, accountability, and engagement. We must work with those human beings who have harmed or disrespected us or the rules toward an accountable solution that does not dehumanize.

There’s a difference... Punishment reacts. Restorative justice listens, acknowledges, and works toward repair. We define calm as the ability to respond to triggers in your environment in less automatic and extreme ways. True accountability isn’t about making people suffer. It’s about creating the conditions where change is possible. We can not hold others accountable if we don't hold ourselves accountable first. The next time you come across conflict, annoyance, or harm... take a moment to pause and listen. Intentional responses create stronger relationships and real solutions. #RestorativeJustice #Accountability #Leadership #CommunityCare #Healing #Justice Xavier Graves

Thank you to everyone who joined our info session to learn about leading restorative circles for youth at the Tulsa County Family Center for Juvenile Justice. These spaces give young people a chance to be heard, to repair harm, and to build a better future. The next steps for volunteers are simple. Complete fingerprinting and a background check, attend the volunteer orientation, and finish PREA training. If you weren’t able to make the session, you can still get involved. Restorative justice is built on the leadership of women. They’ve created pathways for healing, held communities together, and led the fight for justice in ways that often go unseen. Their contributions aren’t new, and neither is their impact. Women’s history is restorative justice history. The best way to honor it is through action. Keep learning with women. Keep showing up for women! #RestorativeJustice #WomensHistoryMonth #Leadership #CommunityCare #Healing #Accountability

Justice isn’t about control. It’s about care. Restorative justice has always been part of Black history, rooted in healing, accountability, and community. Black communities have led the way in creating alternatives to harm and punishment. As we close Black History Month, we ask you to continue this legacy by engaging in restorative practices with us. #restorativejustice #blackhistorymonth #healing #communitycare #oklahoma
