We're deeply grateful to The Circle Keepers for creating such a powerful and deeply needed resource to meet the moment. This week,?October 7th, 2024 marked one year of current iteration of the conflict between Israel, Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon, and beyond. Informed by that and in the hopes that educators and administrators hold space for our communities to process, name truth to power, struggle and ultimately heal together tomorrow and beyond, they created this RJ circle protocol aimed at holding space and facilitating dialogue, while staying away from activating language (trauma-informed and healing centered practices) as well as language that could be used to weaponize this against us. You can review the protocol on their website: https://lnkd.in/e4QBw5jM

"...The purpose of so much work prior to actual group conversations is to gauge each person’s willingness to participate, their openness to having their perspective challenged, and whether their goal for a facilitated conversation (or series of conversations) is something both realistic and within our scope of service. Otherwise, we run the risk of inviting people with conflicting needs and agendas into a space where judgment, defensiveness, victim blaming, and re-traumatization are high possibilities." https://lnkd.in/ewkEcaaR

"New York fully abolished slavery in 1827. But businesses, including the predecessors of some modern banks, continued to benefit financially from the slave trade — likely up until 1866. The lawmakers behind the proposals noted that the harms caused by the institution are still felt by Black Americans today." https://lnkd.in/eEnvgrQM
