The morning began with Restaurants Canada's President & CEO, KELLY HIGGINSON, welcoming a powerful room full of women leaders in foodservice & hospitality, elevating their minds and connecting over breakfast at the renowned Mildred's Temple Kitchen. Thank you, Chef Donna Dooher, of Mildred's Temple Kitchen, for your wise words and warm hospitality. It is always such an honor to visit and dine with you. Thank you, Jocelyn Pepe, MSc. MHC., Fractional Head of Mental Health & Organizational Wellbeing and Founder of TrU, for teaching us how to create conscious connections. While we all feel the urgency to make change, Jocelyn reminded us that we must first set the right intention and nourish ourselves. To ground ourselves in the present, we participated in some breathwork to start the day off on the right note. Thank you, Karlyn Percil-Mercieca, Founder & CEO of KDPM Equity Institute and Certified Emotional Intelligence and Neuro-Leadership Coach, for taking the stage and empowering us to D.R.E.A.M – an acronym that helps women unlock their full potential. Your energy was contagious! Thank you to all of the amazing women who filled the room with their positivity, vibrance and powerful energy. Your presence and contributions made the event unforgettable. Get on the list! We got to sit down with one of our longest-standing Board Members, Doug Stephen, at his beautiful Winnipeg Restaurant, 529 Wellington, for a little reminiscing and some great advice. Doug Stephen’s journey into foodservice started by accident at 15 when he helped a man stranded on a lake, landing his first job cooking pizzas. 55 years later, he’s become a driving force in Manitoba's foodservice industry. Doug's impact is undeniable, from his time at The Old Spaghetti Factory to The Keg Steakhouse + Bar and all over North America. WOW! Hospitality Concepts Inc. is now comprised of 6 legendary restaurants and a bustling catering operation. Doug may be a successful entrepreneur, but his legacy is built on the people he’s mentored and inspired throughout his career. As the longest-serving board member of Restaurants Canada with 28 years, former board chair, and honorary fellow, Doug’s influence stretches far beyond his restaurants.

"As CBC’s Washington-based reporter Alexander Panetta put it,?'Being confused by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff plans isn’t a flaw – it’s proof you’re paying attention.' Just before I sat down to write this update, Trump announced yet another pause on tariffs. But the message from Washington is clear: we must assume the tariffs will be back. The lobbying efforts here in the U.S. capital remain in full swing, and we cannot afford to let our guard down." Read more from Richard Alexander's blog, here: https://lnkd.in/eQtdBQ7A

“This week, I’m in Washington, D.C., working to ensure our U.S. partners fully understand the consequences of tariffs—not just for Canada, but for their own economy. My goal? To get them speaking up—loudly—to their elected representatives.” Read more from Restaurants Canada, EVP, Government Relations and Public Affairs, Richard Alexander as he visits Washington, D.C. here: https://lnkd.in/eJVvBwCJ
