A very important post by Ethan Mollick.. do read.. "We are at the cusp of an era in human history that is unlike any era we have experienced before. And we are not prepared for Agentic AI and AGI in part because it’s not clear what it would mean to prepare." This is precisely why responsible AI is no longer just an aspiration—it’s a necessity. Over the past eight years building the Responsible AI Institute, I’ve come to a fundamental realization: the only way to control AI is with human-in-the-loop AI. But even I didn’t expect these capabilities to emerge this fast. Policies and governance frameworks alone aren’t enough. We need continuous, embedded capabilities for automated evaluation, optimization, real-time oversight, and external verification—ensuring these systems align with human values and societal needs from the start. Join us at our non-profit Responsible AI Institute and build responsible AI systems by leveraging our recently announced RAISE Pathway Agents. See link for more: https://lnkd.in/eBNri7WK

I wish more people were taking seriously the possibility that Ezra Klein and the leadership of the top AI labs are raising: that AGI, a machine better than most humans at most intellectual tasks, is a real possibility in the near future. You don't have to buy into this yourself, but leaders & policymakers need to consider the possibility it is true and think about how to mitigate risks and take advantage of opportunities. An addition after seeing the comments: to be clear, no one knows whether AGI is possible, let alone in the near term. It may not be. But quite a few serious experts, including many of the leaders in the space, seem to think it is imminent. For people who need to consider possible futures, it seems a mistake to assume they must be wrong.
