Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) began in 2001 with a mission: to raise awareness, promote prevention, and inspire collective action to end sexual violence. Each year, SAAM’s theme reflects what society needs most at critical moments. This year’s theme—“Together We Act. United We Change.”—is a call to join forces and build a safer, more respectful world. ? Join us as we celebrate 50 years of advocacy and progress. In observance of Denim Day and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, we encourage you to wear your most creative denim to stand against victim-blaming and show solidarity with survivors. ?? ?? • Building the Foundation Together In the early days of Respect Together (formerly PCAR), a group of dedicated women—leaders in their communities—formed the first board of directors to build a state coalition. Without a dedicated staff, they balanced their daily work with coalition-building, driven by their passion and vision for supporting survivors. Their foresight and perseverance laid the foundation for everything we’ve achieved since. Today, we honor their legacy and continue the work they started—together. Please Join Us. ?? Sexual trauma is linked to many other mental and physical health issues, including eating disorders. Many of the challenges survivors face place them at greater risk for developing an eating disorder. Research shows trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are significant risk factors for eating disorder development. Sexual traumas such as rape, molestation, harassment, and other forms of abuse, can all be catalysts.? ? It’s important to detect early signs of an eating disorder because we know that early intervention can improve chances for long term recovery. Join National Eating Disorders Association this Eating Disorders Awareness Week to share this critical information and use their online screening tool to find out if you or someone you care about is at risk.? It’s never too early to take action. ? Together, we can work to improve the health and well-being of survivors at all stages of their healing journey. #EDAW ?? National Eating Disorders Association
