This includes making laws, managing resources, and handling internal matters. For Tribal Nations, sovereignty is the right to govern ourselves, protect our cultures, and manage our lands, as recognized in treaties and laws. It is essential for preserving Native identity and independence. It's a difficult day for those of us who care about protecting our environment and communities, with national election results giving ample reason for concern. Nevertheless, we are pleased to report the near-certain passage of Proposition 4, a historically large measure to fund climate and natural resources in California. As of this posting, Prop 4 is leading at 57.9%. This effort would not have been possible without our funders, partners, and supporters. Thank you all! California will continue to lead the way on environmental issues no matter what national leadership looks like. We have sent a powerful message by passing this measure: that voters are willing to invest to reduce climate risks now, rather than pay more when natural disasters strike later. Prop 4 is a $10 billion dollar bond measure that will prepare Californians for the impacts of climate change by funding the protection of safe drinking water, increasing wildfire resilience, investing in clean energy including offshore wind, and so much more for nature and people in the state. This bond gives special attention to communities most affected by the impacts of climate change by requiring that 40% of the funds provide meaningful and direct benefits to vulnerable populations. The passage of this bond measure was only possible with the efforts of a large, committed, and diverse coalition--including hundreds of organizations from across California. The bond was years in the making, and RLF has played a critical role from the start, including helping build a diverse coalition of supporters, raising over $1 million, and chairing the campaign. Again, we give our thanks to the donors who contributed, partners who did incredible work, and to all who played a part in this monumental accomplishment. We look forward to working with you over the coming months and years to continue to make durable, transformative impact for climate, land and water conservation, and communities.

??Warm Springs, MT: The headwaters of the Clark Fork River and home to the largest Superfund site complex in America. Formerly a river that occasionally ran red from metals pollution, decades of restoration work in this headwaters area has dramatically improved conditions for native and wild fish populations, but the work isn’t even close to done. TU and Clark Fork Coalition partners, bolstered with federal infrastructure and state funding, are working to reconnect the Clark Fork River and the Warm Springs Creek watershed upstream for native trout migration and spawning. Recognized by the White House as a transformational fish passage project, this work will improve ecosystem function, climate resilience and clean water for fish and people alike. Work like this is a testament to the role small streams play in the health of watersheds and the communities that surround them.
