Resonant Energy is excited to partner with the Providers' Council to launch a new program: Solar Upgrading Nonprofits (SUN). This grant-funded program aims to help nonprofit organizations install solar energy by easing the financial and logistical burden with staff support grants and grant writing assistance to help cover the cost of installation. With federal funding cuts and rising electricity costs (which will be exacerbated by tariffs), the opportunity for nonprofits to insulate themselves from rising costs is more critical than ever before. Join us for our launch webinar on February 28 at 10 am to learn more about the program and find out how your organization can participate. Register: https://lnkd.in/e58Pd_2X When you're ready, apply to the program, it only takes 5 mins! https://lnkd.in/eBE-XQA7

  • Thank you to the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center for funding this innovative project and Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston and the other affiliates for their incredible partnership as we explored solar options for Habitat-built homes. We're very excited to build on the lessons learned from this toolkit as we embark on the implementation phase of this project. More stories to come later this year

  • Resonant Energy Co-CEO Ben Underwood is running for a position on the Interconnection Implementation Review Group (IIRG) and we would like to encourage our partners and clients to vote for him. The IIRG is a joint utility / solar industry working group convened by the DPU that is responsible for recommending changes to the Interconnection Tariff, which governs every aspect of interconnecting distributed energy (solar) resources to the utility grid in Massachusetts. As many of our partners and clients might be aware, these interconnection policies play a major role in determining the timeline, size, and cost of solar projects. Ben's priority will be to remove barriers affecting small  (<250 kW AC) systems, with a particular focus on streamlining solar interconnections for multifamily affordable housing and new construction projects in order to reduce housing costs in the state. The link to vote is here: https://lnkd.in/e4-p6zfQ And you can find more information on the IIRG here: https://lnkd.in/enh9WAR7 And if you have any input about how we can improve the interconnection process, please reach out to Ben directly

POAH is a proud recipient of a Gap Energy Grant from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) which has allowed us to install a solar roof system. POAH, along with Resonant Energy (Resonant Energy), recently completed installation of solar roof panels on Torrey Woods, a 20-unit family housing development in Weymouth, MA. This install is expected to save an average of $12,000/yr for 25 years on electric costs.   The Gap Energy Grant from DEP’s Clean Energy Results Program (MassDEP, CERP) is an innovative and cost-effective funding model that supports energy-efficient and renewable energy projects in Massachusetts.

  • TOMORROW: Join Resonant Energy and LISC Massachusetts for an early 2025 affordable housing solar policy update. There are many moving parts in the federal and local policy space, including Solar for All, the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, and SMART 3. The Treasury has also announced that the Low-Income Bonus Tax Credit program will be opening this week, well ahead of the anticipated opening. While many policies and programs are still being finalized, we will help attendees better understand the current policy landscape and identify critical next steps to ensure that your solar projects can maximize federal and state funding sources in 2025. You may not know it when you walk by this residential building in Jamaica Plain, but 6 stories above you there are 121 kW of solar energy powering the affordable housing development. 125 Amory includes 199 units of low and moderate-income housing for seniors and folks with disabilities. The Community Builders, Inc. opted for a no-cost Power Purchase Agreement financed through our partners at Sunwealth. This project received a 40% investment tax credit through the Low-Income Communities Bonus Tax Credit Program which allowed the financier to provide TCB with a more favorable PPA rate and up to $450,000 in savings over the next 25 years. Thanks to Boston Solar for their great work installing this sky-high array!

This week, the Treasury announced the opening of the Low-Income Bonus Tax Credit Program which delivers higher solar incentives to projects that benefit low-income communities, affordable housing providers, and First Nations. Below we've answered some of the common questions related to this program 👤 Who does this policy affect? This policy applies to any customers who are considering a solar project with any of the following criteria Category 1: Projects located in a low-income census tract (check your address at https://lnkd.in/ejPwFVnA) Category 2: Projects located on Tribal land, limited applicability in MA Category 3: Projects on federally-subsidized affordable housing (typically LIHTC or PBS8) Category 4: Projects incorporating Low-Income Community Solar ✅ What does a project need to apply? Behind the Meter Projects need a signed solar installation contract or Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) Standalone Meter Projects need a signed Interconnection Agreement from the utility Category 3 Affordable Housing Projects need a copy of their tax credit regulatory agreement or HAP contract governing project-based section 8 designation Ground Mount or Parking Canopy projects need non-ministerial permits issued by the town (e.g. planning board approval) 📅 What is the timeline? Projects that apply during the initial 30-day window, January 16 - February 14, will receive priority—this is critical for the most competitive projects in Category 1 and Category 4. The program will remain open through August 1, 2025, and projects submitted from February 14 - August 1 will be reviewed on a rolling basis ☀️ What do prospective solar owners need to do? Our team will be in touch with the next steps for clients who have already begun the solar design process. In the meantime, nonprofit teams can begin working with their board or decision-makers to approve contract signing More information about the program is available on our blog (https://lnkd.in/eQTKGYDZ). Equitable Clean Energy & Climate Justice

BREAKING NEWS: in a turn of events that I honestly did not see coming, the Biden administration just announced that it is launching the next round of the LI Communities Bonus Tax Credit Program months ahead of schedule so it starts on January 16th (likely to ensure at least one final year happens before the program is potentially removed). As in previous years, there will be an initial 30-day window and then rolling applications accepted through August 6th, 2025. Resonant Energy has helped affordable housing developers and nonprofits secure over 200 bonus tax credit allocations in the past two years and we are looking forward to another sprint in the next few weeks to see how many more we can add to that list. 🎯 Category 1 (+10%): low-income location. 600 MW. (400 MW carved out specifically for housing in LI census tracts). 🎯 Category 2 (+10%): Tribal land. 200 MW. 🎯 Category 3 (+20%): Affordable Housing. 200 MW. 🎯 Category 4 (+20%): Low Income Community Solar. 800 MW. *plus an additional 174 MW spread evenly across the 4 categories as leftover from past years. The main thing most on-site solar projects need to have is a signed contract in order to be eligible. Please reach out as soon as possible if you'd like to put together a plan for how we can help you apply! More analysis to come soon
