Are you tracking mass and energy throughout your manufacturing process? If not, it might be time to consider employing simulation as a tool to achieve this. These quantities obey fundamental laws of conservation (classical physics), which makes up the backbone of multiphysics simulation tools. Application examples are: ? Track your process sustainability indicators in real-time by filling out data gaps with simulation (“soft sensor”). ? Complement /verify engineering calculations to theoretically qualify changes. These points are particularly of interest in processes that are subject to tight productivity schedules combined with regulatory control such as the pharmaceutical industry. In such cases, utility systems with no product impact still comprise a significant contributor to the plantwide energy footprint. Scaling, production changes, and troubleshooting By simulating your production setup, you can get critical insights without losing valuable production time For production companies, unscheduled downtime easily costs millions of DKK in wasted raw materials, equipment repair, and lost market shares. In resolvent, we specialize in developing models and tools that can guide production changes, ensure predictive maintenance, or troubleshoot while the production is still running. Scaling from laboratory to full-scale production or making changes to an existing production line, are examples of common?situations that exist in many pharmaceutical production companies. Production changes: When making design changes to production lines, you want the product conditions to be within a regime you know works. This is, however, not straightforward as the factors do not scale equally, and even small design changes can have a significant impact on i.e., the cell growth or fluid flow. Having validated simulation results available empowers the engineers to give qualified guidance to the decision-makers and thereby reduce risk, cost, and downtime. Troubleshooting: The process of troubleshooting is similar. Knowing the baseline conditions allows you to examine your setup, identify outliers, and investigate which changes can solve the problem. MESH project, which focused on improving the efficiency of Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOECs) for Power-to-X applications like renewable energy storage and biogas methanation has been successfully completed. Some of the highlights were: ● 2D and 3D Modelling: Our models have provided crucial insights into cell behaviour, addressing key operational challenges. With AC: DC operation, we've simulated steady-state conditions, providing an understanding of system dynamics. ● COMSOL Application: resolvent developed a dedicated tool for modelling AC: DC operated cells, simplifying the exploration of operating parameters for researchers. As we wrap up the MESH project, we sincerely thank all our partners and collaborators for their invaluable contributions.
