??We’re celebrating the launch of Resilience Mission Coalition, a new organization with big plans to spread awareness against domestic violence in Grady County. ??The Resilience Mission Coalition, a collaboration between Cairo-based Mission Vision Foundation and our regional partner, Vashti Center for Children & Families Resilient Communities of the Southwest Georgia sector in Thomasville, aims to educate young people about the warning signs of domestic violence and provide support for both teenagers and adults.

Dr. Terri McFadden is a pediatrician at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding and a professor of pediatrics at Emory University. ?She earned her nickname, Georgia’s ‘Godmother of Literacy,' by promoting childhood literacy to improve pediatric health and development. McFadden does this work as a medical director at Reach Out and Read Georgia, an initiative that provides books to children during their doctor’s appointments. ???Tune in to her interview with WABE’s Rose Scott about the program, her decades-long work to transform the lives of children through books and her ongoing efforts to close Georgia’s literacy gap for young readers.

Rural healthcare has become a growing focus, with states like South Carolina investing millions in clinics like Clemson Rural Health to address gaps in underserved communities. However, Medicaid expansion remains a contentious issue, particularly in Southern states, leaving many low-income individuals without coverage. While programs like Clemson’s provide critical services to uninsured populations, broader Medicaid eligibility could significantly improve access to care. ??Currently about 1.5 million people across 10 states - including Georgia - fall into a coverage gap. Experts caution that expanding rural health infrastructure alone won’t suffice if patients can’t afford care.?
