ResFrac optimizes operators' return on investment by providing the industry's only genuinely coupled hydraulic fracturing, wellbore, and reservoir simulator. The entire development life-cycle can be modeled in a single continuous simulation: from fracturing to production. Because ResFrac describes both multiphase flow and fracture reopening and propagation, complex sequences such as parent/child fracturing and production (with detailed description of frac hits), refracs, and huff and puff EOR can all be modeled. Users can quantitatively optimize landing zone, well spacing, parent-child relationships, cluster spacing, fluid volume, proppant volume, fluid and proppant type, refracturing, and/or EOR huff and puff schemes. ResFrac is used by small independents and supermajors alike, and has been applied across nearly every major American shale play: Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken, SCOOP/STACK, Utica, Marcellus, Montney, Haynesville, and Vaca Muerte.

  • For today's Office Hours (February 11, at 9:00 a.m. Central), we will have a presentation from ResFrac Senior Reservoir and Completions Engineer Ankush Singh. Ankush will present his recently published paper, "Far-field Drainage Along Hydraulic Fractures: Insights From Integrated Modeling Studies in the Bakken and Permian Basin."?Click the link in the comments to register to join us. Abstract: In this study, we construct and calibrate simulation models of four field-scale datasets: two from the Bakken, one from the Delaware Basin, and one from the Midland Basin. The datasets include diagnostics such as: offset pressure observation wells, cross-well and injection-well fiber, interference tests, post-frac perforation imaging, and production data. For each dataset, we build a list of ‘key observations’ and then vary model parameters to match each observation. The pressure observation wells and the interference tests provide strong constraint on far-field pressure depletion. The calibrated models provide more confidence in the spatial and temporal evolution of fracture conductivity over time. Key conclusions are: (a) fractures are finite conductivity, exhibiting large and persistent pressure gradient during long-term production, (b) fracture conductivity diminishes with distance from the well, (c) fracture conductivity decreases with pressure drawdown, and also, fracture conductivity decreases as a direct function of time, (d) proppant ‘immobilization’ (or, ‘trapping’) caused by fracture roughness is a key determinant of the propped length, (e) the magnitude of proppant trapping appears to a function of both formation properties and mesh size, (f) more speculatively, the magnitude of proppant trapping may also be related to fluid velocity/rate per cluster, and (g) it is advantageous to perform fracture injection testing to measure the pressure and stress profile above the pay zone, especially in formations where significant pore pressure variability is suspected above the target zone.

    It was great to attend IGC two weeks ago in Malaysia! Thanks to the organizing committee and the hosting organization PETRONAS. Aside from the excellent technical content, the event featured Education Forum, Presidents panel, tours, and of course the fun run! Proud to say that ResFrac was one of the sponsoring organizations. And thanks to photographers, they did an excellent job making sure that our experience can be shared with others.
